I saw some pics you posted of crossovers and BGs you posted a few weeks ago. And footholds.

I take 90% of my nuisance beaver with bodygrips. 100% of fur beaver.
It's great that you can. That indicates to me that those beaver have not been educated by uneducated trappers.

No,I take a lot of educated beaver with bodygrips. Some of the most effective sets to take educated beaver are with bodygrips. You need good chestwaders however.

For many years I did not even set a single foothold for beaver. Conibears were all I used. Some of those years were 500+ beaver catches.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

My best catch was 455,almost all nuisance Off 600 miles of Railroad between April and December.A lot were skinned. Normal nuisance catch on RR was 350-400. Busting all the dams was the tough part, lol

I choose a foothold to make sets along open banks with no brush. Blind sets in deepwater are good for educated beaver.
It is just natural that northern trappers that trap year round will have a lot more ways to catch beaver than southern trappers who never learned to trap under ice.

One set I have used with success on beavers that have been educated to bodygrips is what i call the diversion set. I use the bodygrip to divert the beaver into a strategically placed foothold. Works like a charm. I might have a pic of it somewhere.

The challenge factor is that not all beavers react the same way. About the time you have something figured out, along comes a beaver and does the complete opposite of what you expected. Ain't that the truth? Probably why they never went extinct 200-300 years ago.

Works like a charm. I might have a pic of it somewhere. I could definitely divert some of these beavers by using an exposed 330.

Y'all ever notice how everybody has the hardest beavers to catch? Just like coyote trappers say my ground is harder than your ground. That being said, footholds for me You're on to me!!! Lol

It is the smell of lure and steel , imho Only beaver that I come across that are trap shy have been kisses by steel once, or a old sow who’s litter all of a sudden disappeared You can usually get her up stream as she travels to a old lodge It seems otherwise they are rocks.

Lure is next to useless at many jobs here (as are above waterline/visible BGs and sometimes snares.) I still put in at least one lured set (a slicked up mound set) at most nuisance locations...just to "test" the waters, so to speak. The brood females(s) are usually the last ones captured. It is a relief to get her first.

Paul Dobbins has indicated great success using lure(oil stones) for hard to catch beaver.

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/07/full-55849-182946-img_8335.jpeg) Beaver don’t necessarily tend to be spooked by dead beaver in channels. This was a week ago Beaver stuck in footholds that don’t drown have attracted beaver before and other time spooked other beavers from that whole shore line. I think it depends if that beaver has been whacked by a trap before or not I'd catch zero beaver here in the deep South with sets like that^^^ These beavs down here don't play that fencing with a bodygrip at their dam. These two were working that patch as I was setting footholds. Went to the truck and set them up in between the sticks and blocked it where I needed to add some. They were both there less than 12 hours later. I set like that because I knew they were going to go through it, and both did with sticks stuck in their mouth. No need for people on here to belittle my work, I still caught the problem beaver in less than 12 hours, and still got paid. So what doesn’t work for others is probably just application or subject matter. Everything has its applications. Have something in your back pocket for everything, and keep that memory in your front pocket to prove the hecklers wrong
