purchase is 11.45 I hand you a 20

you lay the 20 to the side and start by saying

11.45 , place a nickel down and say 11.50 , place two quarters down and say 12

then place a 5 down and count it of 13 , 14, 15, 16, 17 and yes you can use your fingers if it helps

now a 1 and say 18 , and a 1 and say 19 , and a 1 and say 20 hand me that change and put the 20 in your drawer

Pictures that you do simple math first, then start at the end to figure it out, lol.

I got straight A's in math too! About 50 years ago tho.

Nothing wrong with your math, but your powers of observation could use some brushing up on.

I think you should give the ones after the coins until you get to $15, then give the 5 and say "and 5 makes 20. Have a nice day." The "have a nice day" being way more important than how you got the money back. lol

And common sense. You can't start with the x's first, unless you start at the beginning to figure out what the figures are worth.
