I can't recommend a brand, but have seen the results of my neighbors dogs and am truly impressed at how well their dogs obey the line.

They started their dogs at the puppy stage and they never once crossed it. How good you can train an adult dog with one I haven't seen.

Petsmart is what I have. Keeps our feist and Golden Retriever at home. Agree with the above. Start them young.

Had a couple of the pet smart collars. They didn't last very long. The last one lasted from oct to feb. Had a year guarantee and they wouldn't honor it . We have a Halo collar now and it really works well. Much better than the Pet Smart. You deal with Ameticans on the phone instead of chineese if you have a problem

We have had pet safe in-ground for 5 1/2 years with no troubles. Prior to that we had the pet safe wireless for 12+ years. No problems with them either. They work great. 2 labs here. We did have a collar that got broken while they were wrestling with each other. Called customer support and they send a new one free.

Dogs need to be trained per instructions that come with the product. Don't rush it. No shortcuts.

They work the vast majority of the time but depends on the dog. Friend had a male Brittany that would get to full speed and run through the zone. Got shocked but then he was free.

Have an underground fence, Petsmart I think it is. We live in a woods with about 2 acres open that borders the edge of the woods. We circle the entire border just inside of the woods. After a couple of years, we could disconnect the fence. The dogs knew the woods was as far as they were allowed to go.

Guy had a pair of security dogs in his yard that got out and shredded some poor old guys dog at a nearby campground years back a sad deal. Another guy had a beagle that would rush the barrier when he wanted out for whatever reason usually to get at a coon around the place. Just a couple downside examples.

That happens. We have a 10 pound Shi-Tzu that ran through the fence after two bucks had wandered into our yard. Believe it or not, he startled them and they ran back into the woods. I wonder what would have happened if they had stood their ground?

They work until they don't. Dogs ain't stupid, well not all of them, and if they ever learn that the pain is temporary then the reward just might be worth it.

Petsmart wireless here. Works great. Collars last about five years. Mt Cur and Austalian Sheppard. When i leave to go hunting with my cur. I have to take his collar up, load him up in ranger, drive fifty yards outside the yard, then get him out to go hunting. They will not cross the line.

We do not have a dog now. We had an invisable fence for the 11.5 years we had our yellow lab. Never had an issue unless I pierced the cable with a rotor tiller or spade. Worked very good and you could set it for strength based on the aggresiveness of your dog.Our lab was about 75 lbs. but not real aggressive so a very moderate to mid range setting kept him in. Ours was a PetSafe.

Neighbors living a mile away have one. Works great until the first clap of thunder sounds during a storm.
That tells me I just as well go out and load their cattle dog up for the ride home. He never leaves other than thunder.
Either associates it with danger or thinks of the treat it takes to get him into the vehicle.

They now make a wireless dog fence. You can set up a border on the gps and that will act like a wire.
