So I bought $ 10.64 in groceries today. Handed the young (I am guessing 19-20 year old) a $ 20 and a $ 1 and she hands the single back telling me it is too much, the $ 20 will cover it. I gave the single back and asked her to humor me and punch the 21.00 into the register. " Oh you will get a $ 10 and some change back ! " I will count on my old math any day over whatever math this person should have learned.

Yeah, 1 +1 isn't 2. It's just a bigger 1 when they are put together. Lol

I like to pay with cash. I like the anonymity of it. I calculate my change due mentally. They don't count it back anymore. Recently had a cashier upset with me when I pointed out I was ten bucks short on my change. Pointed at the line behind me to suggest I shut up and get out of the way. I wait on folks ahead of me to fool around with cards and pins I figure the folks behind me can wait on me to get change.

I went to oriellys this summer and bought 5 feet of gas line and the young lady started measuring and the new foot must be 25 inches long.I was speechless and happy at the same time.Probably should of stocked up but figured another employee might catch on.

Usually happens to me the other way, I have to give them back some change.

If ya'll want something to mess with your brain, watch this video on the "butterfly multiplication method". I was helping my daughter with her Math homework and they were multiplying a 2 digit number by a 2 digit number I started ahowing her how to work the problem and she said thats not the way we were shown. So I looked up buttefly method and by the time I watched the video it was no wonder she was lost. I showed her the way they used to teach multiplication and ahe had it down pat in under 5 minutes. Turns a 2 step problem into 3-4 steps.

If you're buying multiples of an item, a lot of cashiers scan the item, set it down on the belt side of the register, type in the number purchased and then slide the item over the reader, scanning it again. I catch a few a year doing that. I caught a cashier doing that at Aldi today. When possible, I always try to keep an eye on the scanning process and immediately point out mistakes. Even though I watch, we always check our receipts and a little over 20% have extra items on them, where something was scanned more than once. The cashiers slip a lot through when you are putting groceries on the belt or bagging. I don't think it's intentional, just incompetence

Usually happens to me the other way, I have to give them back some change.
Once, I paid with a 20 dollar bill, on a 6 dollar some purchase and the cashier gave me back change as if I gave her $200.00. I told her she made a mistake and that I had paid with a 20. She counted the money I handed back, looked at the display and handed it back to me and told me she was right. I said I only gave you 20 and she angrily said "I know, I gave you the correct change!" pointed at the display and started ringing up the next customers groceries. Because of the rude response, I was tempted to just keep the money, but interrupted her, gave her back the extra money and left. I don't think she ever understood what she did.

Yep fried my brain for a bit and I knew how to solve the problem. Cant imagine how confusing it was to a classroom of kids that were just learning.

At a gas station near me , you have to pre pay when you buy off road diesel. So I went inside wanting to pay for 10 gallons as I had 2 of those 5 gallon cans. It was $ 3.35 per gallon. The woman behind the counter proudly wearing a badge that had her name on it and under it was the word MANAGER spent a couple of minutes looking for the displaced calculator, so she could work out what 10 times 3.35 exactly was.
