At this angle with a good arrow E2 should get a heart shot right ?

I think E2 puts you too far off the side you want to shoot through the heart which is basically between the legs , your looking down on that deer E3 would be better and D3 would be my choice

D2 puts you too close to the scapula and it will stop an arrow been there done that never see a t-shirt for it

I feel like E3 is more likely to be mostly liver and take longer to bleed

I would shoot at A0, right above its eye. Or A1.

Love your style but not sure that's the best with a bow grin

Still works, if the range is short. Had a buck shot in the skull with an arrow that we couldn’t get the broad head to come out of the plate. It made quite the thwack sound.

E2 looks a bit too far forward. Might catch one lung but if you miss left at all might miss all vitals. I'll b more in the E,F 3,4 area. Took me till the second look to realize 2 was the line left of the number

Miss by a few inches and it's not pretty. If seen deer that they tried to head shoot and missed a little bit that lived or at least for awhile. Makes for cool story when it works but ugly when it doesn't. Plus a deer can move a substantial distance at the sound of the shot before arrow impact. Head shoots in a hunting situation are an ego shoot in my opinion

D2 is missing lungs and heart.

I think some of u are thinks the 2 line is right of the number

Don't over think it . The kill zone of a deer is roughly the size of a basketball. The cutting size of todays broadheads gives you some leeway. The range can change the angle of entry also. Shortest track job I ever had on a bow kill was G5/6 area . Deer whirled and when arrow hit it looked like a balloon filled with blood exploded. Deer went about 20 yards

My deer always seem to drop at the shot. That’s quite a bit of quartering away too. I’m aiming for the red dot…if he drops I still got lungs. One definite and clipping the other. When it runs, you’ll know if it’s the heart because if you didn’t make a sound before shooting he’ll fall within sight. If it runs out of sight it’s the lungs. The last 5 deer with archery fell within 3ft of impact to 60yds.

Because of the angle, I would shoot at E2 for an upper heart shot.

More and more when I go anywhere I find myself keeping track of where the nearest rest room is.

Line between 2-3 and E-F

I'd go E3 myself and not worry about hitting the heart, there's plenty of goodies there.

That would have been my second choice and for the same reason.

E3 for me. I always aim based on location of offside shoulder.

Follow line 3 down, it comes out right between the front legs. But I agree the exit should be offside shoulder

I'd rather hit 2 lungs than the heart. Not just because I think lungs shots are better, I also like to eat the heart.

I see some clearly mean the line intersect when they say 2-3 line and E intersect I wonder if others do also but not as clearly

I figured archery picking the box is about all the closer your going to get and anywhere in that box is what you get

I also wonder if everyone isn't seeing that you can see over the ridge of the spine so you are clearly above the deer

thinking about your exit given your entry square where do you place your exit ?
just satisfying my curiosity for how people see the same image different.

given the angles I expect square D3 entry which I place 2 inches left of the spine to exit just to the right of the sternum just ahead of the right front leg , should catch both lungs and leave a nice hole out the bottom of the chest cavity for a blood trail.

Just shoot the dang deer. It's already snorted and run over to the neighbors who had to put out his Marlboro so he could see from all the smoke. He knocked over his beer and spilled it. sitting on the ground beside him . He stepped in his still smoking dump to try to get a "better angle" on it so he could shoot it in the neck. You guys are still trying to draw a line on him while him and bubba load the thing on top of the hood of his truck and bring it over to show you !!!!

don't think you would get many shots like that-never seen deer standing on top of grass hay in my country. That being said I thinks its a rare chance you would get a shot like that. I have never shot a deer at that angle. Bored ?

tree stand hunters

tree stand hunters who let them get in to about 10 yards from the base of the tree

your at about a 35-45 degree angle down over them

Goes to show ya what I know about that. Out west I just shoot deer with a rifle, cut them up, put em in freezer and eat them.I still don't get the picture. Looks weird to me even if I was in a tree stand.

A friend of mine took a ground level heart/lung shot at a doe just as she turned her head back to bite a flea or something on her side. The arrow went right through her ears and didn't kill her. For the next hour he and his brother chased her around the field (she was staggering like she was drunk because she had no equilibrium now) and finally got into a position to take another heart/lung shot. Point don't shoot at the head.

Standing on top of the hay with its feet on the ground ? I am sure there has been lots shot at an angle to the side just not something I have done myself.

In order to have a chance at hitting that deer in the head with a bow, you may well be just as likely to connect if to hold at A5. The deer is looking at you. When he hears that string let go, he will likely whip his head all the way around by the time the arrow gets there. Do all deer lurch at the sound of the string? No. Maybe 5-10% don't. 90-95% will.

Similar logic applies to hitting that deer in the heart. You must be able to predict where that deer's heart will be by the time the arrow gets there.
If you watch enough slo-mo videos of bow killed deer, You will see how low they hold on the deer in order for it to duck into the arrow. A lot of them are holding on chest brisket hair, then the deer ducks so that the arrow hits the sweet spot.

Wolfie,

Make life easy on yourself.

Forget numbers on a chart.

On angle shot always aim for the off side shoulder. Dead critter every time.

I'd aim at F2 because the deer is gonna drop at 20-30 yards.
