I say ND. The long tails get as big as a female mink. And we have big mink.

I've heard they get real big in SE Alaska.

Alaska has no long-tails. However, the short-tails in interior Alaska are nearly as big as the long-tails in Idaho. Alaska has least weasels as well, and they are tiny. Here's some least weasel photos...

We have all three types here. I have caught all three in the yard. The long tails seem to number second as far as population goes to me, behind short tails. There may be more least than I think. They don't leave much for tracks on our wind packed snow. You see tracks if the snow is soft. At time you have a hard time tracking a coyote it is so packed.

Except about 6 years ago I caught a longtail.The first one from many years trapping.
Then 2 years ago another longtail shows up in a marten box.

Mainelogger, How long is that long tail? He looks to be fair sized.

The line on that map has moved a bit further northward due to the changing climate over the last 20 years or so.

That's Big WRR&^^

MJM I can't remember but it was of decent size. It was too big for a weasel board but just a little to small to fit on a mink board. I ended up bending a peice of #9 wire to an in-between size and keeping it in place with a few clothes pins. I'll have to look around I had it tanned it's around here someplace.

I think D.C. is where all the largest weasels end up. Kind-of a congregation area for them.

I got this one in a pocket gopher trap. He could have kept dig gopher patrol for all of me. I caught one in a 220 that I had over a badger hole that I think was the largest I ever caught. I don't have a picture of him. But I a sure he was as big as a female mink.
