Upper Michigan, Upper Minnesota or Upper Wisconsin?

I Googles wilderness areas of all states and here is what MN, WI and MI have by their definition. MN 822,000 acres, MI 291,000 acres and WI 79,000 acres. One also has to think about regions within each state that have very few residents, roads etc. Each state has those areas. I would guess that MN with the huge advantage in wilderness acres has more of those regions. Those acres probably also include national, state and county public acres which may have more traffic and visitation. I was surprised to see how much less WI had then our neighboring states.

Northern Minnesota is quite desolate when it comes to human habitation. Yes, I have been there.

There is a lot of wild area without any people in Minnesota, much more than Wisconsin or Michigan.

The wildest areas that I have been to in those states have been in the metro twin cities

Where else can you find bear cougar and gangbangers within spitting distance?!

Superior in north MN alone is over 3.5 million acres.

Did alot of bear hunting up in that area 30years ago. Didn't have to go to far out of town to get lost. It has changed quite a bit since then but still nice.

Yes, I'll freely admit I'm a wild area snob. I made it a point to find the wildest places on this earth. Absolutely no evidence of modern mankind. In 60 years, I've actually found two such areas, and neither was in a designated wilderness. I believe with the designation, it is ruined because of all the wilderness junkies that want to spend their two weeks vacation in a "wilderness". One of the areas was the extreme west end of the Brooks Range in northern Alaska. The other in Far Eastern Russia, just south of Siberia.

Not sure why you're asking, but the North woods in Maine is also about 3.5 million acres of uninhabited wilderness.

The problem with northern Minnesota is that it's still Minnesota.

Northern WI, is ok if you like people from Minneapolis, Chicago and Milwaukee.

The UP is pretty cool. I thought about moving there, but decided it's a better place to visit than live.

Do they charge them to use that bridge? If they do how much? I think wild is not really the word you are looking for. Remote comes to mind for me. 40-50 miles between tar roads is not real remote.

The three states are next to each other. Several years ago I drove through the upper parts of all three and saw miles of what appeared to be pure wilderness.
