I like hounds and hunting. Never lived anyplace deer with hounds was legal. I want to go. Anybody know of any guides who do this?

It's going to be hard to find a guide as most states where allowed it has become regulated to the point that only organized groups aka hunting clubs do it. You pretty much have to be a paid member to join in.

You're best bet is to know someone and go as an invited guest.

Wished you would have asked this about a decade ago. Seems that's when dog running dried up in the area where I deer hunt.

I'm a dog guy with no time for hunting dogs so dont have any now. Cant hunt deer with dogs here but always wanted to since they advertised it in Bambi and I saw it as a kid.

I have hunted with hounds a lot. Owned quite a few. Had to break pups from chasing deer as not legal anyplace I hunted. I sure would like to deer hunt with them at least once.

sure sounds like fun

would be a way to really cut the population in some places with too many

maybe some day but I doubt it will ever happen for me

we did a lot of deer drives where we are the dogs and take turns standing them off

not as many any more , land drying up and deer populations soaring

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

You'll never cut the population do to all private land. Deer mean to much to land owners.

I think antler restrictions became the death nail of running deer with dogs. Walker dogs would run a deer plumb out of the county. The houndsmen I knew preferred beagles and as a hunter I did too.

Still legal in some parts of Arkansas. This pic was from last week and made it's way around fb and got a lot of folks upset. Seems these guys are from out of state (FL) and come up and kill a bunch every year.

I've hunted hounds my whole life. Never deer though, it would be fun sometime. Used to correspond with a guy in Australia who hunted the red deer with dogs, they would actually run them to bay a lot of times rather than "ground sluicing" them in front of the dogs.

Looks like a mess of work cutting deer! Good for them, getting after a mess of deer! Sounds like a fun time, Iíd love to run deer, bear and cougar with hounds one day. Iíve never done it, but think it would be a cool experience.

Around here, you mostly ride up and down the roads trying to get in front of GPS collared dogs, and shoot the deer as they cross a road. Not exactly the same as what ya'll are picturing.

Yup! I find it disturbing that different groups of outdoorsmen canít appreciate the way others hunt or trap legally. Just because they donít do it or canít do it, they donít like it. Or think only the way they do it, is the only way it should be done.

Everyone here does it but from what I've seen it's a lot like BandB described it. Sometimes they'll drop the dogs in a section of timber and then post hunters every hundred yards or so around it just off the road.

I don't do it, but I am sure that I know people that do. I could ask around if you want. Most of it here is done on public land.

Thatís how I pictured it! Like a deer drive with humans, but get to listen to dogs working. Sounds like a good time.

Looks like a good days running hounds there. A lot less deer to get clubbed by a vehicle.

Iím sure it has changed throughout the years with new technology and such. They use to hunt them like rabbits. They used beagles as they were a lot slower running and just like rabbits the deer would circle back around. Just a larger circle than rabbits do.
