I like hounds and hunting. Never lived anyplace deer with hounds was legal. I want to go. Anybody know of any guides who do this?

Wished you would have asked this about a decade ago. Seems that's when dog running dried up in the area where I deer hunt.

I have hunted with hounds a lot. Owned quite a few. Had to break pups from chasing deer as not legal anyplace I hunted. I sure would like to deer hunt with them at least once.

sure sounds like fun
would be a way to really cut the population in some places with too many
maybe some day but I doubt it will ever happen for me
we did a lot of deer drives where we are the dogs and take turns standing them off
not as many any more , land drying up and deer populations soaring
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I think antler restrictions became the death nail of running deer with dogs. Walker dogs would run a deer plumb out of the county. The houndsmen I knew preferred beagles and as a hunter I did too.

If that was a trailer load of coyotes or beaver or muskrats etc. you would be saying that’s awesome.

Still legal in some parts of Arkansas. This pic was from last week and made it's way around fb and got a lot of folks upset. Seems these guys are from out of state (FL) and come up and kill a bunch every year. Looks like a mess of work cutting deer! Good for them, getting after a mess of deer! Sounds like a fun time, I’d love to run deer, bear and cougar with hounds one day. I’ve never done it, but think it would be a cool experience.

Around here, you mostly ride up and down the roads trying to get in front of GPS collared dogs, and shoot the deer as they cross a road. Not exactly the same as what ya'll are picturing.

If that was a trailer load of coyotes or beaver or muskrats etc. you would be saying that’s awesome. Yup! I find it disturbing that different groups of outdoorsmen can’t appreciate the way others hunt or trap legally. Just because they don’t do it or can’t do it, they don’t like it. Or think only the way they do it, is the only way it should be done.

Everyone here does it but from what I've seen it's a lot like BandB described it. Sometimes they'll drop the dogs in a section of timber and then post hunters every hundred yards or so around it just off the road.
I don't do it, but I am sure that I know people that do. I could ask around if you want. Most of it here is done on public land.
Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

That’s how I pictured it! Like a deer drive with humans, but get to listen to dogs working. Sounds like a good time.

I’m sure it has changed throughout the years with new technology and such. They use to hunt them like rabbits. They used beagles as they were a lot slower running and just like rabbits the deer would circle back around. Just a larger circle than rabbits do.
