SW I really don’t even feel like I’m rolling the dice here . I asked a game warden in Arizona a few years back about CWD in the elk herd there. He laughed and said CWD was a myth and a made up lie . I didn’t know what to think of that comment at the time , now I think he was being truthful.

There should be more testing done on life deer. I am sure there are many deer and elk that have natural resistance to the disease. We have all beat up on the deer farms but that may be a place where testing could be done better, faster etc. and then resistant animals could be used to build that up in the wild herd. Could take decades to even scratch this but then how much progress are we making now with the protocols we are currently using?

We had maditory testing in 2022
Both this white tail and mule tested positive.
We, my family, our friends and neighbors. And also our church family eat the game we harvest.
We know we have been eating dear with cwd fore sometime.
The trick is you need to wear a mask while you eat.
Ok maybe not the mask.
We could have a solar flare that could put us back in he stone age so I've heard.

The thing is weve been eating unknown positives for some time and so has any one who regularly eats deer with out testing. These deer were healthy fat. And we've had cwd fore years with no mandatory testing and half of WY may pay if it becomes zoonotic.

You can pay for it. I don't want to.

SW do you get all your deer tested I know you kill a good many and you’ve also spoke of giving the front shoulders away ( again I’m not trying to be smart just a question about southern deer ) you may not have cwd in your area I don’t know

You guys make sure all the meat thats bought at grocery stores and going out to eat is tested for disease?

I'm not the most educated on this subject, but I am confused by CWD and prion diseases.

I have read that CWD is exclusive to deer, elk, etc.

I have read that a cow eating out of the same pasture where deer are eating cannot get the CWD prion and that the prion that affects a cow is different than the deer.

Same goes for sheep.

If its true, that each prion has its own desired host and that a CWD prion cannot affect a cow or sheep, what makes them think that it could affect us?

Additionally, I know people got infected with MCD, but wasn't that from people eating tainted ground meat and that farmers were feeding back ground up, processed protein meal made from other cows? Was brain matter included?

We don't know if people could get CWD, incubation period could be 15+ years. Some of the human population may be immune but some may not be, it's difficult to study.

Monkeys fed cwd infected meat did get cwd, that is why there is a concern

I read about the monkeys a while ago. There were two types of monkeys involved in the study. One was highly susceptible and the other wasn't They were also inoculated directly into their brains and orally.

The monkey study was mainly prions injected into the brains not fed. The fed part has not been replicated by any other labs so those results have been suspect since they were posted.

There has been a small population of folks in certain areas that regularly eat squirrel brains that have larges incidents of V-CJD, the human form of CWD.

Prions have been found in muscle meat but not to a large extent.

Study was done on cattle for about 20+ year in Wyoming, they were placed in the CWD pens at Syblille and monitored for again over 20+ years and they did nor contract the disease.

The cattle disease did jump to humans because those cattle were fed positive brain matter before processing and it jumped to humans. Hence cattle are no longer allowed to be fed certain animal parts.

Incubation can be years for V-CJD so folks could be carriers and not show symptoms for years.

I live in cwd hot zone in Wyoming , it is very real but we don't worry about it. We also know many of the folks studying it and they are great folks without a tinfoil agenda. Some are after the fed money but most are good folks just working to find some answers.

We do not get all animals tested but some, I would not give away a positive animal to anyone to eat but have eaten them myself.
Animals in the throws of cwd are not something you want to see, it is very sad.

Most folks do think it has been around for a long time but strange in the way it has manifest itself in wild cervids.

Nature has built in measures to control all wildlife it seems. This is just another one. Nature seems cruel at times to us, but we can't stop nature and its means of controls. Restrictions on hunting, prohibiting use of all animal by products and urines are all on the menu it seems. Little my little they chip away to find ways to get more funding and restrictions. The removal of any means of revenue generated from wildlife seems to be in the big scheme of things.
