I found this on top of a rocky gravelly hilltop. Do y’all think it is a tooth?
Sure looks like one to me, but I can’t say for sure. Appears to even have a gum line if is a tooth.

Yeah, it appears to be solid rock; heavy.

Was thinking it might be a fossilized tooth.

At the gravel pit at Coral rapids the pit run gravel is full of fossilized snails.
Some of them look like what you got there.

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out that it is not ; old Joe's lost tooth on his boarder bill passed for Texas

Well thanks Boco, I was hoping y’all said I had me a T-Rex tooth, not some lowly Gastropod snail! Ha. grin
Cool rock, snail, or sex stone either way.

It looks like a well weathered, prehistoric, shark's tooth.

I have seen a number of fossils that look like rock. I have also seen them in big rocks.

Here’s a pic of amphibian tracks I took in the mine in 2013. Upper Kittanning Seam. About 300 feet of cover. Folks from PSU told me they were about 330 million years old.

I pulled a 3’x 3’ slab of shale down from the mine roof. It has a couple sets of tracks in it. It’s been sitting in my basement for over ten years. I had 37 years working underground, this was the first and only time I ever saw anything like this. I was told this might have been the critter…

It has the looks of one Chancey, but I'm far from an expert.

Those are awesome pics Bigbrownie! So cool to see something like that and try to piece the history of it all together.

A friend of mine I do business with found this fossilized tortoise shell while grubbing mesquites. He told me he grubbed a big mesquite out of the ground and this popped out with it. I asked him if I could take a pic and send to the University where I used to work. He said sure, as we were both interested in it as it is really cool. They sent back and told me that there were only two known species of ancient tortoises that roamed Texas back then, and that the picture was more than likely a calcium carbonate deposit or something like that. They did insist that we send the fossil to them so they could verify though. We declined. They contacted me several times more asking me to send it in. I told them, no thank you, its just a deposit.
