I have tried a few options when it comes to 110 stabilizing, but have not tried them all. What do you guys use for 110 stabilizers?

But for some of my muskrat trapping i use 3 or 4 pieces of 1/8" wood or metal rods. This is to camouflage more to deter theft. With lathe too many traps would go missing

I used lathe. slide it through the eye where you wanted it and twist it to lock in place put the chain ring over the lath and stick in the ground.

I use cane stalks, (not green, the dried ones) 18" to 24" long

Phil Brown made me some that I used when I trapped mink, I used them in bottom edge sets. Since I no longer trap I am thinking of selling them on the "Shed" in the near future. It is a metal plate with what I call wings to hold the 110 in place, it also has a loop welded to the plate that I used to attach the trap chain to the plate with a quick link. If anyone is interested I will try to get out to my trap shed and take a picture of one.

KB stabilizers for bottom edge sets and tobacco lath for most all others. Note: replaced all #110s with #150s. #150s are just a wee bit larger and fit the KB stabilizers like a glove.

It really depends on what type of trapping you’re doing…if you are cold rolling mink, I’d go with some type of H stand. Rats would be a whole different setup.

Im sorry but what are yall calling "Lath" is that a ripped or split piece of wood like a tobacco stick?

I’ve used them vertically and horizontally. I like that they are always attached to the trap. I’m going to cut some down to about 4 inches for the harder/frozen ground areas.

1/4 inch redi-bolt through the hinge opposite the jaw and just stick them in the runs. It works slick.

I use lathes, got them where the highway dept. gets theirs, big difference.

Lathe was used for holding plaster on a wall, 4' long, 1 1/2 " wide ,about 1/4-3/8 " thick, it's rough sawn, sold in bundles, I believe it's Spruce usually. Lathe 101, lol

The nice thing about tobacco lath is this: you can slide your unset bodygrip down the lath, set where you want it, and it "locks" onto the lath. Stick the lath alongside the run and position the locked on bodygrip as you please. No hardware required.

Getting tougher finding old tobacco lath. I've got maybe 400 sticks left. Should last me til I can't wade the marsh anymore.

I like the 1x2" furring strips you get from Menards in 8 ft lengths for mud bottoms ( I cut them in half most times of course). These don't break like lath and will last for years. They also slide in between the set springs and when you twist the stake, they lock tight and wont spin or move. I use them in open water and below the ice. Easy to set depth when locked into place.
For rocky/harder soils I've always like the Lefler style metal stabilizers.

Most of my rat spots have cattails so I use cattail sticks.

Have a guy with a portable mill cut you some 1" spruce then rip it on a table saw.

Here is a picture of the one's Phil Brown made for me, it weighs a little less than 2 pounds and measures 4 x 6 inches. I used this under bridges up against the bridge wall, many times there is concrete there or rocks making it hard to use sticks or lathes. I had a lot of success along bridge walls with them.

Pan head screws.

Since I use 110s for squirrels in structures pan head screws are perfect for holding a 110 tight over a squirrel hole. Also all of mine have a trap swivel j hooked to the ring leaving on hole in the swivel open to be screwed to the structure to secure it.

Gum saplings, they work with 110s or snares.

Lathe in soft bottom situations. And a JL Stabilizer on hard bottoms wired to a brick. The JL is made by Jerry LeBeau of Maine and sold through Sterling Fur. Very effective set up.
