what kind of set do you guys use on a big, slow moving river? The only muskrat trapping I do is in ditches and in marshes and i just set bank dens and toilets.

Toilets, slides, pockets and lure on a stick sets . Amy undercut banks are great for muskrat.

artificial "fake slide" works great on stable slow moving water. You can catch about everyone that swims by.

If open water & much fluctuating water, as most rivers can be, a FLOAT is the way to go. Tie off to a low overhanging tree limb or bush or whatever your river offers.

Float is a good point especially when you get those side creeks and other little still areas where the water barely moves..

Until the racoons find them!

I would be okay with a few of them. They might bring a buck or two more than the rat.

I wish I had marsh's to trap but I dont. I creek and big water trap so I have to anchor everything like it will hold a coon or even beaver

oh no doubt, just wish I had marsh's.. This will sound funny to some guys but one of my dream trapping trips is a trip somehwere I can trap a big marsh for rats, maybe a week.. I love rat trapping maybe above all else but I live in a declining population where its all creeks.. Once those creeks were all lined with corn fields but not now...So a week just trapping a big marsh for rats would be a bucket list trip for me

I agree, those marshes are and were awesome. Unfortunately, there are very few muskrats in the marshes now a days. I have places that had acres of huts in the tidal flats, now I can't find one. Our farm creeks and streams don't even have rats anymore. I have heard similar stories from a lot of trappers. I hope they figure out what is going on with them.
