Seems like coyotes are getting more into stalking turkeys that I’ve noticed. I’m sure they would always work the birds I’m just seeing it more I’m many ways more often. I’ve seen places cats do the same thing leaving a ring of feathers right where the bird was killed.

It’s not uncommon for yotes to show up at the roost area waiting for the fly down when the gobbling draws them in. Called in a bird for a buddy once that a pair of yotes that tried to snatch it well after sunup.

Yesterday I walked a sand trail road that was covered with yote tracks in the areas the birds were walking the roads the most, then I had one walking the tree line within 30 yards of me.

They must be scoring birds or you would think they would not be trying it that could be why they sail out of the roost instead of doing the fly down in some places.

Coyotes sure chase turkeys around here.

Many years ago now, I was calling and was up on a ledge with decoys down below me. I had two yotes come in and circled that higher ridge I was on. I lost track of them for just a second and here one jumps up at me about 5 feet away. It scared the living heck out of me. I pulled the trigger and blow him away at about 5 feet away.

I see them coming into calling and have had them run up fast to decoys before.

I called one in once. It saw my hen decoy. Jumped right over it then came within a few feet of me. I was hiding behind a blown over tree.i was at a log deck on a small hill. The coyote ran full speed up the hill to the sound of my call.

I was calling turkies and had a coyote come in. I let it pass.

I get more cats stalking my set ups. I hunt almost exclusively around big swamps and have at least 1 occurrence every couple of seasons. Watched a big cat get within 5 feet of a hen deke the first week last season and it decided to back out slowly. Not sure why.

Was walking and talking as I call it one morning this week searching for a gobbler. I stoped in a small block of woods and made a call, heard something in the leaves and hear come and old mange female slipping straight towards me. She won't get another turkey, the TSS do a number on them. We would be surprised if we new how many they get in a year.

If I see a coyote during a turkey hunt it becomes a coyote hunt. I’ve been working birds and had a coyote come in and killed the coyote and still got the gobbler about 10min later. I don’t give passes to coyotes ever, no matter what hunt I’m on. Missed out in Washington last year because I couldn’t pull up the regs on coyotes fast enough, lol!

Coyotes aren't near the predator on turkeys as bobcats are. And neither coyotes or bcats come close to the predation of coons, possums, and crows on turkey eggs.
