I have never stepped into place like this. There is a long point that goes out into a lake for quite a ways. I bet there is 15 - 20 mounds along this point. Which mounds does a person set. They are all pretty good size. I have the equipment but hate to put that much into one area. Puzzling.....

My experience is you're better off making your own.

I agree with sniper--make your own mounds. By doing this, you are creating an interloper into the area. Don't be afraid to make several sets in the area,
Castor mounds have been my number one beaver taker for many years.

Tom-I think it was you many years ago who taught me about castor mounds and the use of castor that was not from that area...thus the interloper coming into his territory.
If it wasn't you I'll still give you the credit!

I usually steal the mudpie that's there and replace it with one from another location or make my own. Probably 90% of my sets are on top of another beaver's fresh mudpie.

I wouldn’t bother making a mound. I just set a trap and put a little castor behind it. It’s that simple.

Wind direction and placement of your mounds
Check on "windy.com" what the next 3 days directions will be and place for them to smell
you did say point, and 10 yards through bush is nothing for them to troupe over cross land to smell someone different
these rains are going to mess up sets, so bait sticks are needed for visuals

I did this added new mud to the pile and added a little castor lure. Bang the first nigh had a good size male. Is it possible for others to visit this spot or should I move the set?

Yes, remake the set as others will check it out as well.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!
