We have the unit that plugs in and sets a radius. It’s been a blessing and if i had to spend 500 dollars tomorrow on a new one I would. It took about 2 days for the dog to figure out the perimeter. Just have to remember to take it off when take the dog somewhere otherwise you feel really bad lol

Forgot to mention all the flags were removed within 2-3 weeks. They learn quickly that when the collar beeps, voltage is right behind it. That's been my experience with an underground fence too. They learn boundaries real fast.
My doctor suggested I start doing squats, so I moved all the beer to the bottom shelf of my fridge.

Some dogs will fight an e-fence enough to get out but it will be enough to keep them from coming back in. Jack Russell Terriers are known for that. Put up a physical fence , they will dig under it. Put up a invisible fence , they will learn to zoom through it quick and take the hit for freedom It takes both types of fences to control a determined dog like a JRT.

I lived with two dobermann's once. They had a wire and a beep beep collar. They would walk across the yard and when it started beeping to warn them they would lay down and let it beep until the battery wore out, it would stop beeping, and they would stand up and go wherever they wanted to. Smart dogs. You got a Lab? You should be ok. lol. Just kidding. I couldn't pass that one up. Those Doberman's really did that though. Not sure what collars would do that. The PetSafe gives a 2-3 second beep and then juice is flowing. The only way that a shock isn't forthcoming is if they clear the beeping by getting back into the safe zone. I'm sure if anyone is interested, they could read up on the specs online. Guys who run dogs would know way better than me, but seems like the tone followed by a bad result is a powerful tool. I've seen guys 'tone' their rabbit dogs who didn't want to come to them. The tone or beep worked by itself and the shock punishment didn't need to occur. Same thing I've seen with my house dogs.
