Did a lot of shooting over the years with old friends. Three friends, and I was the youngest of the bunch by 20 years. About 10 years ago one of the guys, Merle, died. About 5 years ago another, and a very good friend, Dick, died. A few days ago, the last guy, Edwin, died. I’m in my 70’s and they were all in their 90’s.
Kind of sad.
We sure did a lot of shooting over the years.
We would go to the tavern and get a fried bologna sandwich, and one beer, after shooting.
Not any more.
Times change,

Along with aches and pains, leading to lessened mobility, losing friends and family to the ailments of age, is one of the very worst parts of having a long life. My condolences for your losses.

I remember in 1980 asking my grandfather what was the worst part of getting older and said all his friends were gone now, he was in his 70's at the time. I guess each generation has to cope with such stuff. In my late 50's now and already buried way too many friends and family, at least your's lived long lives.

Sorry about your loss. I’m realizing similar issues in the last few years. Nothing will ever be the same but cherish the memories and if given the opportunity take someone younger out and pass on the traditions.

maybe you find a 50 year old to go shoot with and you can be the old guy.

I lost a friend I used to shoot with , similar situation 20 years older than I he was 71 and cancer got him.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I have helped carry a lot of my friends to their graves. I am still kicking but I sure miss them.

Times change,

Sounds like the tavern in marseilles...i visit cemetaries frequently. Old saying is that if you think of them they are still around.

A friend of mine had a bunch of guys that duck hunted together. One of the group got terminal cancer and at a hospice visit the group (including the cancer stricken one) agreed on how his memorial would go: There was one piece of property that a landowner never allowed them to hunt so after the guy died and was cremated they re-loaded up his ashes in 12 ga and made a bonfire on nearby public land and spent the night drinking, toasting their departed amigo, and shooting his ashes out over the forbidden property.

I've always thought that was particularly well done.

There are three options. You die first, they die first or you both die at the same time. It is a good thing to face head on.

Sorry to hear it. My Beagle club and VFW Post has the same problem. Gotta find some kids to get into it and keep things going.

Anybody that has makes it into their 90's has had a good run. Dodged a lot of bullets and overcame a lot.

Had a 50 year class reunion awhile back......less than half of us still alive. And some of those had one foot in the grave. A reminder to make every day count.

Also....did the math and research once..........and it turns out less than one person in 1M makes it into their 90's. So for those guys.......literally 1 in a million.

Cleverly done, but I wouldn't want to be near a bunch of drunks with shotguns and a grudge!
