I miss Herter's.
Before the internet--before WalMart, there was Herter's. A mail order warehouse that, if you ordered out of their catalog and sent them a check they would send you stuff in a timely manner.

I spent some time in Wisconsin in the early 70s and went to their Beaver Dam, Wisconsin store. Also bought stuff from them at their Waseca, Minnesota store.
They had it all. Traps, guns, loading equipment, all manner of fishing equipment, hooks, cedar plugs, boats, outdoor gear, knives........... They even had books written by no less that George Leonard Herter on subjects like how to survive a cobalt bomb attack and how to live with a difficult woman, and, Georges world famous Herter's Bull Cookbook

Anyone out there old enough to remember them? .

They were an excellent company, bought lots of stuff from them.

I still have my George Leonard Herter Professional guide's manual. Always fun to pick it up and read through it.

Looking at the Herters catalog was like looking at the Sears Christmas catalog...I do miss them.

I loved going through their catalogs and ordering once and a while. Gander Mountain was another good one at the time.

My Ma worked for Herters so we had all kinds of their products around the house, I think my dad had every fishing lure in their inventory and then some, when I started trapping gophers as a kid that’s where all my traps came from

Ya their easy to miss I don’t think there was anything you might need for the outdoors that they didn’t have

By he way I have several Herter made firearms including 4 different revolvers including the double action one they made all excellent shooters

Their catalog was huge, I could look at it for hours. I ordered several things from it. My first compound bow was a Herter's black mountain hunter, I bought in 1976. I still have it.

Between Holiday gas stations and the Herter's catalog, a fella could buy/order all the outdoor gear he needed. My brother and I ran setlines in the summer making good money back in the day. 8 lines, 100 hooks a line, all ordered out of Herter's. Was like Christmas opening that box with everything packed in excelsior.

I remember heading to their Beaver Dam store with my Dad and brothers at a very early age. I have a pile of their old catalogs, the same book that Whopper Stopper referred to, and a lot of their gear I have accumulated, used, and hung onto for all these years. My favorite duck boat, which I still have and use, is a Herters' Model Duck and Goose skiff from the fifties. Their Model 63 Bluebill Decoys rode the water like no other.

When they were ending their business I bought decoys and other stuff at super low prices, but it sadly heralded the end of a golden age.

Being in Texas we didn't have access to the stores but dad had a few Herter's branded things.

Pretty sure I saw some arrows or something recently that had Herter's mark on them.

My first reloading press, scale, and die set were Herter's. Their written adds were great. Everything Herter's was the best in the world!

Don't forget the foam and cork duck decoys. Still about all I use today. I buy up all the old ratty ones I can find and restle coat, flock, and airbrush them

You name it, they had it. I bought some of their no.2cs. for fox trapping back in the 70s along with my Victor's. They were a very strong trap. Many years later I used them for rats and mink after removing 1 of the coilsprings. They worked OK. but weren't the quality of Victor's at the time.

I am still shooting a 1962 International Hunter recurve from Herter's. And two of my mom's favorite kitchen knives are Herter's knives with carbon steel blades.
