Go knock on doors.its harder for people to say no face to face then over the phone.you can go to your farmers co-op and put a ad up saying your willing to trap furbears leave your name and number.do you have any friends that there parents own land that are willing to let you trap/or do they have relatives that are willing to let you trap.if there's not alot of people trapping in your area you should have no problem getting land.good luck.

1) log off
2) ask at least one landowner for every question you post online.

Even though you are hardly on here, I suspect that if you ask that many you will have ground running out your ears.

Introduce yourself, ask for their time, explain what you would like from them, ask if they have any problem you could help them out with, network people you are already working with in the area, ask if they have restriction, seal the deal with a prepared written permission or a handshake (a man's bond), thank them for their time either way it goes.

What exactly is your age? I’m not asking to disparage you but more so on how to help you out best. To your post, I would say grey hair helps a lot and bringing a youngster along with is even better but I’m assuming you’re the youngster and if so my first response stands. Find a piece of ground you’d like to trap and ask the landowner, be responsible on that ground.

Start helping to bale hay and doing other labor for local farmers. Do a great job and be punctual. Ask after you've done good work for them for awhile. You can likely pick up more land then you can trap.

If the dairy farm you said you are trapping is that big. That’s all the land you will need while in school. Baby steps. Long lining over the frozen tundra won’t happen until you are out of school

I’d suggest you become proficient trapping on the property you have now before expanding. If I gave you permission on my property, and you didn’t produce results, then you’re the nuisance. Word travels.

Young buck, you might want to concentrate on football and go all in on that. You got a little Bobby Boucher in ya. You get knocked down, you dust yourself off and you go back in head first… If you make it big, I’d like a shoutout at your press conference.

We have to get out of the mindset that trapping critters for people isn't enough. We trappers provide a very valuable service (and they know it). If you are trapping their critters for free every working farm knows the value in it (and it's pretty high). There's an entire industry set around doing this where nobody is doing it for free (quite the contrary).

Simply knock on doors and meet people face to face letting them know that you are doing some trapping in the area and if they have any problem critters that you'd be willing to set a few traps for them. Everyone that has land has, or has had, problem critters they want gone. A common animal will rise to the top of the list in your area. (coyotes, beaver, coon, etc)

BTW, Phone calls, E mail, etc don't work unless you're dealing with businesses. Farmers/ landowners want to size you up and see what kind of person you are. Don't drive mommy's new lexus. Fit in as a worker.

I don't trap there but I do trap a small dairy farm (200 acres)

As a matter of a fact I actually have a 1000 acres of land to trap

i trap ghogs and other nuisance critters for people for a good price and i become friends with them and being 13 they will let me fish in thier ponds, swim, trap, hunt, its works out pretty good. the older people like seeing how i come down everyday and dont need help from my parents to set the traps. i used to be scared to knock on doors but i realized that you cant gain anything by being scared and if they tell you no oh well find another property. best advice i got

Why do you need permission for more land when you already have 1000 acres of land to walk around on?
