So you're saying lead is bad?

To birds of prey it is. And yes, there is a general consensus that lead poisoning is bad.

This a bunch of garbage, you've been on here preaching this non lead crap before, go back in your hole.
Man has been killing game with lead projectiles since they invented gun powder.

I refuse to shoot " nontox" for anything, anywhere. And frankly I don't believe it kills all these birds of prey and really don't care if it does

Duck hunters have been dealing with the non-toxic shot thing for decades! Eagles especially, when they eat dead or dying ducks that ingested lead, which when ground up in their gizzards causes thin shelled eggs, which break easily, reducing the population. But that is from lead oxide, not chunks, so I don't understand or accept the non lead bullet proposals for big game hunters.

Way to many birds of prey around here for my liking. From calves - cats, to every other animal.

It’s just information y’all, no need to get all defensive. Use it as you will, perhaps someone with an open mind might consider it. If it isn’t your cup of tea, then by all means use what you want.

As always, hope you have a great day.

There isn't anything that compares to lead in terms of effectiveness and economic value.

Watched a demonstration today and the lead ammunition cost more and they both performed the same. With far less fragmentation of the copper ammunition. I can see the benefits under certain conditions. No options for .22LR which sucks. But, I would just use lead ammo for that.

Seemed decent enough though.

I have recovered a number of dead bald eagles that the necropsy showed cause of death to be lead poisoning

I like the copper bullets barnes makes. Dont care if a few raptors die either. Got plenty. I have more lead bullets than copper. I aint throwing them away. Steel is a poor substitute for lead pellets. I dont eat ducks or geese anyway. The lead free stuff that works in shotguns is pricey. tss

The lead that is shot into big game that is left in the animals meat and gut piles, when the birds eat it, it oxidizes in their stomachs. It’s not always big game, but small game and predator carcasses that are left in the field.

If you don’t want to use non-lead then don’t use it. Nobody is forcing you to do that.

The partnership is trying to encourage education and voluntary use. So hunters are more informed and when the ban everything people push stuff we have a say.

That is all.

TSS is stupid expensive. Bismuth is decent but pricy also, definitely limit shots to high percentage. lol. I eat the heck out of ducks and geese though.

I think bald eagles are glorified buzzards, I just don’t want them to die though.

I like owls and other BOP, there is a place for all of God’s creatures.

Funny when people worry about animals more than people. Lol. (Not directed at the O.P.)

I'm not up on the science but I do know the raptor population was too big and had been growing despite all the years of lead being used in guns. I don't think it's hurting their population at all including eagles. The recent bird flu looks like it has really hurt the raptor population here in the last year or two. Which is a good thing. I've been seeing more small game animals and upland birds with their decline.

No offense taken. I won’t say that seeing the meat filled with tiny pieces of lead was appealing though. And I do care about my kids and myself eating it. (Wife doesn’t eat venison). Not really sure if it has any effect on humans with that amount of consumption. Haven’t had any issues yet.

I will say that I don’t worry more about animals than people, but not trying to do any more harm than I have to. If you get my meaning.

Not to get too off topic, but that brings an interesting point up. Have you noticed a change in farming practices with the increase in small game and upland birds?

Less use of herbicides and pesticides? More edge habitat or other habitat creation for those species so they can hide from predators and have food and nesting sites?

Where is this "cheaper than lead" copper ammo? All the copper ammo I see on the shelves is nearly double the cost of already expensive lead ammo.

It was .350 legend. I don’t remember manufacturer and they didn’t say where they got it. I was wondering the same thing.

I think it was Winchester lead and Barnes was the copper. Not sure though. I could email the guy and see if he will tell me.
