I have 6 out in my area, my son has 3, the manager has about 10, another hunter has 5. Through all of them we have the entire plantation covered, lol. I just post mine and my son’s pics. The other hunter has a buck who’s main beams turn down that makes it look like a double drop tine. We have some good deer, but we also have the opportunity to let’em grow. Some of these bucks I would’ve already killed on public land, lol. Our county just has good genetics and a bunch of like minded hunter’s around as well. We do have to shoot a ton of does every year though. I’d bet my 27 year old son has killed more deer than Jbyrd and Bucksandbears combined. Notice I didn’t say hunted, just killed. Believe it or not it gets old after a while.

I hunted Kansas 8 straight years for turkeys and it was always the last week of season…end of May. I was always in AWE of the bucks we’d see in velvet and what they looked like then. We’d discuss what we thought they’d become on the trip home, lol.
And I never realized y’all had as many quail as you had. At that time of year they are paired up and I was flushing pairs every 150yds it seemed like!

How long ago was this? Late 80s early 90s when Crp was just starting was the height of quail population in my life time. My dad talked about back in the 60s being the golden years of quail hunting in Ks

Probably about 2011 - 2018 or 19. I was really in awe of the quail, turkeys, and dove y’all had. It would take us longer to drive out than kill a 2-3 man limit on turkeys.
And at that time, we’d call in coyotes about every other setup for turkeys. We’d also see tons of skunks and coons. Saw my first and only badger out there too. He wasn’t nice! I was heading to a tree to set up and he wanted the same tree…he won and I decided to do a big circle to get another approach on the gobbler, lol!

I finally got a good one on camera. But I probably won’t ever get eyes on him in real life. He might have been bumped into the area by wolves.

My brother said he wanted to see if he could target this goofy five pointer. Last year it was a 3 pointer.

We do have a few others that the kids will chase. I will probably focus on reducing the doe population.

That’s 2 different bulls that came into together. Not bad bulls for sure. My wife has an archery tag for here. We have about 20 cameras out. Several nice bulls so far and a giant that I will share pictures of after season.

Got some nice deer there!! Hope the kids get one of those big ones, can’t wait to see the smiles!!

Yeah, the only “bull” elk I’ve seen were early in the antler development stage, but at 10yds they looked huge! Good luck with the undisclosed bull!

Be really cool if in 2 years at 4.5 he made P&Y. Of course if he does some growing between now and then he’ll probably live to see 5.5 - 6.5

We’ll see what peanuts and corn does for growth. Almost tempted to start a mineral site down in there.

Finally getting something on the cameras besides doe and fawns. Nothing to write home about but maybe a couple shooters.
