Red counties are the best in Georgia due to less hunting pressure on larger private tracts located in better soil agriculture areas and/or archery-only urban areas.

Someone thinking of hunting Georgia (and having any chance of taking a big deer) will need to arrange access on a good private tract....and good luck with that.

You will have to know someone that knows someone...lol

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

It would be interesting to see if hunters in certain areas are more likely to enter bucks in the record books than others. I know of a lot of P&Y/B&C bucks taken around here that are never officially entered.

There are several killed in Georgia annually that have not and will never be officially scored.

I've killed 3 or 4 in north Missouri that will net 125" to 140+" that I've never had officially scored. Might one day..

Can't believe no one has said, Indiana. Two years ago the 2nd largest typical whitetail ever killed and it was (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) close to breaking the record, killed with a crossbow. I think IN has the 3rd largest non typical in the books. We are having a pretty bad outbreak of EHD in many parts of the state now. Guys are finding dead deer in lakes and ditches so it may suck in IN for a few years now

The RealTree article above lists Indiana.

I am sure this will raise some eyebrows. But you might consider WV.
Especially the 4 southern counties of Logan, McDowell, Mingo, and Wyoming.
Been bow only for many years. No gun seasons at all. No crossbows either. Lots of huge bucks coming from there in recent years.
Also National Forest in the mountain counties. Get behind the locked gates that are never unlocked, not the ones they unlock in the fall. Population is low, and hunting pressure is near zero. Where I hunt the population is about 60/40 bucks. I see more bucks than does. Bucks live long. Killed one several years ago. Scored 171 1/8. By his teeth he was about 7 years old. Seen a few bigger. I see few deer, but the ones I do are nice bucks.
If you’re up to it there is Otter Creek Wilderness area. 20,000 acres. Lots of bucks dying of old age in there. Hit it with snow on. Pick up a track and walk him down.
Local guy went missing back in there. Never been found. There is Otter Creek Trail that goes through it bordering Otter Creek. Other than that there is nothing in there.
No one can hunt down here if they cannot drive up to the deer once it’s down. So they hunt the edges of National Forest or hunt leases.
Behind locked gates or on Otter Creek you’ll need to cut them up where they fall and pack them out.
Of note is how calm those deer are. Some on Otter Creek go years without seeing a human

Yep, I was not going to mention it. Some hogs down there in several of those counties and its only getting better. Combination of growing suburbs and less hunters means bucks are living longer. 30 years ago, youd be hard pressed to find a mature buck in the 5-7 years old range....there was tremendous hunting pressure back then and most never made it past 2.5

Around here that’s a good way to lose your lease or access to property. It’s ok to share with friends, but not statewide or beyond. Most landowners don’t want the hassle that follows.
I have a buddy that lost access to some primo land due to advertising and making the cover of a magazine. I know another boy that lost a lease his family has had for 20+ years. When out of state hunters come in and offer the landowner 3 times the money, you can’t really blame the landowner.

Savell kills all our big deer down here in the pines anyway.

2 of the biggest bucks I know of were in Nebraski.
