I read the the wax on boiling water deal when I was a kid and did it several years that way... thick, cakey, garbagy traps. It's hard to believe that anyone recommending that has actually done it.

Potential disaster right here , all that molten wax surrounded by water. If some of that water gets on that molten wax - BOOM molten wax bath.



False.
Water will not spatter the wax unless the wax is hotter and rapidly boils the water. With that setup, the wax will never be hotter than the water, the wax will always be lower than boiling point of water.

^^^ And I’ve never had to involve a thermometer to keep the process in check. Keep the water at a simmer and you’re good to go.

I mentioned it, I didn't recommend anything. I also stated Ive never wax a trap.
