Was in a union long time ago, union wanted $1 and hour raise each year for three years. This was when a good wage was $5 per hour, which what I was making. Also got quarterly bonus was around $500.00 for damage control. Company offered .50 cents per hour each year for three years, the union walked because leadership said the company would cave. A year later settled strike for .55 cents more per hour first year, then .50 cents for the next two years. The union also requested damage bonus be payed monthly, first check was under $10.00. I quit shortly there after. no employee should be able to tell an owner of a business or company how much they should be payed with the threat of striking if they don't get their way. Not all sunshine and roses. It's nice to be able to negotiate your own raises and not have to rely on a group.

I never seen the railroad promote anyone if they were not qualified. Seniority allows you to bid a job but if you are not able to perform the work you wont be kept in the job. All the contracts between the teamsters and RR that I worked under allowed the company to can or demote anyone without any reason within 65 days of getting any job.The 65 day window was a probationary period so the company could evaluate the worth of the employee in the position. Many union members were promoted to management within the company, and in those cases they could choose to keep paying union dues to maintain their seniority status on the non union lists they were qualified in,and almost all did.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

We had a 60 day probation period.Cant or wont do the job.GONE.Nothing the Union could do about it.After that,,,if cant or wont do the job.GONE.The Union can object,,then it goes to an unbiased arbitrator agreed to by both company and union. If they say ,yes there is proof the guy isnt doing his job,,,then poof hes gone. Those that say Union members cant be fired are imbeciles.

sadly but in democrat strong holds Why did you make this thread PF? It seems as though your point has been countered several times over, yet you continue...why?

"When we say Donald Trump is a scab, this is what we mean," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement. "When we say Trump stands against everything our union stands for, this is what we mean."
"Donald Trump will always side against workers standing up for themselves, and he will always side with billionaires like Elon Musk, who is contributing $45 million a month to a super PAC to get him elected. Both Trump and Musk want working class people to sit down and shut up, and they laugh about it openly. It's disgusting, illegal, and totally predictable from these two clowns," Fain added.

Don't ever think unions aren't political. They don't like the direction their leader is taking them, the leader disappears .

more than once I have clearly stated this but will do so again.
all the union bashers didn't seem to want to believe my first hand accounts that at least 70% of the members in my plant don't vote democrat. This shows the same thing from a left leaning news source. it proves exactly what I have been saying..
The majority of union members don't vote democrat. So how have I been proven wrong want to try again? In all the years I was a union member, the union always indorsed democrats! Wonder why?

The majority of union members don't vote democrat. So how have I been proven wrong want to try again? "Biden won 57% of union households nationwide compared with 40% for Trump, according to Edison Research, which produces exit polling for major news organizations. That was double Hillary Clinton’s eight-point edge with union households in 2016." 57% is a majority of union members. I thought maybe I had to spell that out?

Amazes and infuriates me the stuff Union members " bring home".
One instance. A 49er buddy years ago asked me I wanted some good tape. Sure I said. He gave me about 10 rolls of some incredible 3M tape. Asked him where he got it. Answer was.., we had a big box delivered of it at the jobsite and an operator backed up, clipped the corner of the box (ruined one roll) and rejected the whole box! Like maybe 100 rolls!
Friend gave me several Full 20# propane tanks. They had " minor scuffs" so were rejected. Friend came home with a trailer load of 2" 4x8 pink foam insulation. 50 sheets. Over run was the reason. Couldn't take it back for extended so his " Forman" gave it to him. Friend had about 15 pair of high quality neoprene waders in his garage. All brand new in the boxes. Same story as the last one above.
The $$$/ theft that goes on is MINDBLOWING!!
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.
