Figured you cast iron connoisseur's could help me out with this. I was gifted this skillet, any idea on age/ value. Was planning in getting it cleaned up & use it but don't want to mess it up, best way to get it back in action?

That's a "modern" piece made after 1957 when the owner of Wagner bought Griswold and Griswold production ceased at the Erie plant. They continued to be made in Wagner's Sydney, Ohio plant until the late 90's. Quality declined sharply during this period.

It has little to no collector value so don't be afraid of ruining it.

I wire brush mine shiny then season.

Eh...wot?

I was gifted a Wagner skillet. When I tested it for lead, the swab turned pink but only near the stick, not bright red. A friend told me Wagner used to have lead in the metal mix. Anyone else ever hear that?

I never heard about Wagner having lead in the mix, but if you eat any processed food, it is got worse stuff in it then that pan. Black pepper has heavy metal in it even. You ever eat any of it?
