The "asking if you feel safe" questions pertain to Social Detriments of Health. It's a set of questions that are required to be asked at any new visit per The Joint Commission. The JC can audit charts and if they find failure and negligence to ask these questions.. it can lead to an infraction. Enough infractions can lead to the JC withholding accreditation to whatever health institute is in question. It also doesn't look good on an employee if you are the cause for multiple infractions being rung up against the place where you work.

That's how it is in Kentucky at least, where I work. And 9 times out of 10 you can know the answers to a lot of the questions just by talking to the patient and holding a normal conversation.

Does any one else find it odd that the OP would carry four knives at once? Do you once in a while have to butcher a beef in town? Do you carry three spares in case one gets dull in a knife fight. I have carried a pocket knife since before I was in high school and have never wished I had a couple spares ones along.

sadly the one where multiple times a week or day they have patients trying to hurt/end themselves , family or medical staff.
I kinda get why , but honestly they just don't check very well

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Yes.

And, I carry a knife everyday and have most of my life. If I cannot carry it into a particular place (courthouses, commercial airlines, etc.), I leave it in my truck.

A better plan for OP: Be cool to people doing their jobs. Slip the knife into pocket or leave it in the car. Be there to support your wife.

Not every situation has to be a weird standoff--which it appears to have been lost.

Didn't this happen the other day at the fair and OP's daughter didn't get to go because of some other standoff over a weapon? Another loss.

P.S. Yes, we should be able to carry weapons wherever as a matter of right. The fact is we cannot. Different issue that will not be solved by a guy at the hospital.

My wife wants me to wear a bracelet that belonged to her grandfather. It says, "Do Not Resuscitate".

When did a pocket knife turn into a weapon? I thought it was a tool. I'm not planning to defend myself with mine. Just cuts some stuff and clean my finger nails.

I don't have to use my imagination at all to understand that institutional authorities in this world have different values and rules than I do. I am trying very hard to imagine letting a pocketknife (or the political ideology that it evidently represents) become more important than my wife. I just can't arrive at that mental location. I had the same experience just last week with my 7 year old. Wasn't hard to put my knife in the car and be with my family.

Or you can add to your value by learning how to use a variety of items that are available most anywhere to maim or disable any threat.

After 9 11 when a little box cutter was used to take over planes and kill 3000 people.

I think the bomb threats caused more fear. They didn't fear boxcutters or bombs when they knew what was going happen on the last plane. IMO a boxcutter is fine weapon if you ambush somebody, not much of a weapon, if he has a chance to defend himself.

A lot of this is just ignorant fear.
Local hospitals around me, have metal detectors on the Emergency entrance doors and police at a desk there, yet all other entrances aren't guarded.
It's some politicians idea, and like almost every politicians ideas, worthless .
No rhyme or reason.

I had to pay a ticket once. Went to the courthouse and didn't clear the metal detector at the door b/c of a toothpick pocket knife. I opened the door and tossed it out in the middle of the sidewalk and went to go back through and they didn't know what to do and kind of half lost their minds.

Back when I was an undergrad, I had to pick up my girlfriend at the airport. I got to the metal detectors and remembered I had a large Ka-Bar lock blade knife in the inside chest pocket of my leather jacket. I stopped and turned right as I was stepping forward to go through the detector. I went back to my car and put my knife in it. When I got back to the check point they wanded me for a long time, before letting me through.

Back then, you could go all the way up to the ramps from the planes.

SAK Camper, my "pen knife", Kabar D'eskabar my lure knife aka spatula, gerber multitool, OKC Rat 1A my big knife. If at work add a Camillus Cuda CQB1 that is my literal pig sticker dispatch blade.

I find it odd for some not to have at least two.

I also carry three lighters, problem with that?

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn would been in trouble all the time. Is it unlawful to carry a toad stabber?. No. Are there people willing to gladly give up their freedoms? Obviously.
