Like so many other people, my phone is my primary "computer" and naturally used heavily in communications. over 35 years of construction plus 30+ years of working in fall/spring goods with guiding/staffing, and manufacture rep. It is almost unconceivable how many contacts I have plus all the accounts with hundreds of vendors.

Well, the unthinkable happened. Got out of my truck and the phone freefallen behind me. Before I could react, the impact and pieces..... So new phone and transferred everything. Well we thought everything. Because I loaded emails to the phone, hundreds of work emails lost. Then as I needed to login to various sites, I'm finding how many usernames and passwords were lost. Its always been convenient to go settings/apps/passwords and look up regardless of autofill or not.

Thinking there must be a better and more reliable system. I did the apple back up and recovered a few, but at a HUGE loss. Figure it will take a couple months to get everything straightened out. I do not want to experience this again. For the heavy users, whats your system?

I just use the same password or slight variations for everything. And I have all of them on a word document that I have printed out and saved in a desk drawer. I update and reprint as needed.

I know about the warnings not to do that (same password) but I've been doing it this way for twenty-plus years with no issues.

Eh...wot?

There are third party password managers out there. I use one thats part of my security software(Avast! Passwords)

I do recommend coming up with a system for determining your passwords and usernames..

The worst ones for me are the ones that make you update every so often and require capital leters and symbols. Those kill me.

Thats why I gave up on spread sheets years ago. I have so many that require a change every six months and they don't allow "similar". Forces completely unique.

Use bomb proof passwords, as in a system you make up and use for all passwords could be a letter or word from the site you are accessing and a set of numbers that have meaning to you as well as a list of special characters you roll through, in order, if the site makes you change on a regular basis. Maybe for trapperman.com it could be man2020$! Last three letters- birth of a child- and first set of symbols, maybe if need to change it would be man2020$@ ect. Or you could use the third letter then go up and down on a key board capitalizing the down and add a symbol so trapperman.com would be azse3ESZA# Then you only have a few things each site could be but they are not the same across all sites lots of ways you can do it but find a system that works for you.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

My trick to passwords is to have a universal password... Pick a word... like trapperman. But you know they are going to want special characters and such so do it up.... Trapperman_00$! If that is your password for everything it makes it pretty simple to remember passwords. Then when I am forced to change passwords for the few that I am I just roll that number up, after 44 changes you end up at, Trapperman_44$1 for example.

I do basically the same as OhioBoy but I will add the first letter, at the end, of the website to make it different from other passwords
Example, my core password is Trapperman_44 then I add the first letter of website, say GunBroker, my password would be Trapperman_44@G

Use 3 hard passwords. Usually a sentence with numbers, letters and symbols. It's easy if you think about it Sougo4it!

Before we had individual laptops for travel, we would have loaners. Generally the password was something like "IhatePasswords!"

That’s how I do it.

My corporate login must change every 90 days. So that is kind of the wildcard. Never had to deal with HR on my choices. Some are pretty raunchy and creative.

Some are saved on my PC, some I remember and I have a pocket day planner I use for the ones I don’t use everyday. My system sucks but it’s my system.

the phone can remember so much so I don't try and take the book with me
but when I need it , it is at home

That brings back some memories. I salvaged about 280 so far. Figure I lost about 200+ Index cards were gone a long time ago

If I go to a site where they require a password, and won't let me use my usual one, I just leave the site. I'm at the age where I'm not going to try to remember yet another password because they don't like the one I have.

When I make passwords and such I write them down in a log book I keep in my safe.
