Couldn't find any info anywhere.

I dyed my traps but they got all rusty now. Could I just set it out for a coyote and be fine???

Should I use fox urine when there's only coyotes around there?

Or would just putting some coyote urine on my hands and setting out help? Or even fox
Thanks

Setting out traps today!

I try to keep the trap as scent-free as I can.

Put the urine on a backer behind the trap so the critter has to cross over the trap to investigate it.

I use fox urine for everything but I mostly trap fox so...

Eh...wot?

Clean the rust off (I use a cement mixer/tumbler with gravel in it)...Then just wax the traps.

Fox urine will catch any land predator.

Keep your hands and traps clean. No scent on traps. Wear gloves to keep your hands from getting in bad shape during season.

How are you going to get a coyote to pee on your hands?

Gonna catch it with my bare hands put in a headlock and scare it. Then it will pee all over my hands!

I don’t want to start a squirt or spray debate but I have seen guys do both for different reasons. The squirt is to initiate “investigation” and the spray was used to scent a larger area for a supposedly “calming” effect. I say supposedly because I don’t subscribe to the notion myself.

I would definitely start spraying your hands down with coyote urine before each set, or at least pre-soaking your setting gloves in good urine. But, you gotta make sure it’s good real urine.

You could just identify as a coyote and pee on your own hands

Hands scent free, no rust on traps and fox pee and coyote glands are fine at the same set.

NTO, if you don’t wax them, they’re gonna rust.

Some folks might tell you that don’t matter, but I’m not a fan.

Think about what you’re trying to accomplish. Why would you want to add scent to a trap that you’re trying to get an animal to step on? Keep your trap scent free (wax them…) and encourage the animal to put its nose where the scent is. (Hint… it should be past where the trap is so it’ll actually step on it).

In my opinion, the only time your trap doesn’t need to be scent free is when you’ve made a reset after a catch and the area is saturated with scent. Tons of threads on her for you to read through with all of this in it.

Don’t think about it too much. Make sure you have a good crossing and frequent animal visits.
The guys that worry about every little thing, spin wheels and D- around. Bed properly and move to next location.
