I hit most of the kitchen knives once a year

We need better kitchen knives I guess. Wife refuses to touch one up on a steel. So I do it. I detest a dull knife. Pretty regular though she dulls one up to the point it needs sharpened. I find out when I try to cut something.

I run mostly Dexter knives
and I do touch up on a diamond steel any time it feels a little off.

I also have more than one of each type of knife so they one knife isn't getting all the use.

cutting board surface , is it wood or poly , my great aunt had a glass cutting board , such a knife duller , and my mom would cut stuff on plates also a knife duller.

does she put them in the dish washer , that dulls knives also.

I had some Mundial and other brands of knives and they did not hold an edge like the Dexter. those mostly sit in a drawer now.

I couldn't work for anybody like that. I carried a pocket knife every day of school. Lost a few before I started school. Hard to replace when your that young. But I did learn to keep track of them.

Hard to believe you would hire someone carrying any of the knives shown but be so afraid of them you would ban them from having a simple pocket knife. Maybe a prison gaurd or something but I can’t think of any other legitimate reason.

I guess if you work in a prison that would make sense.

I don’t carry an Improved Muskrat but that’s been my go to fur skinning knife for decades.

Around the time the company was sold and production was moved to China I was selling furs at John Epler’s place, Epler’s Fur Company. I noticed he had some American made old stock on the shelf and bought all he had. I wish he would’ve had more.

Eh...wot?

my wife now ask if I am wearing pants and I hand her the knife

I responded , am I wearing pants? , a few too many times , I guess

she has one in her bag , her desk, her car ,her lunchbox many of them she even bought herself , but girl jeans being girl jeans doesn't like carrying anything in the pockets not even her phone and also doesn't like carrying a purse
she has a purse with a knife in it for when I am not with.

That pocket knife is all I carry deer hunting. Carry a sheath knife for elk. I smack the back of it a few times to get through the pelvis on elk. Also sometimes need to cut one up in the timber. Deer I just gut them and bring them home to be skinned and cooled. Unless I used a muzzle loader or bow. Can be warm here in those seasons. Then keep a big cooler with ice in my pickup. Have boned out many deer with a pocket knife. I have an old case mini trapper I retired. Carried several of them over the years. I dont like that shiney steel they use now. The old tool steel case knives were great.

I have over 100 buck knives and always find myself using and carrying a 110 folder but do enjoy a 102 fixed blade

I like my knives. But I carry a little buck folder in my pocket all the time. I have even broke the blade twice on it using it like I shouldn't and they replaced it both times.

I like Buck knives and a few others. No China Bucks (as a matter of principal). Single blade, lock back folder for most days. The 110 for hunting is always in my pocket. If I'm carrying a pack I also keep a Buck fixed-blade knife in the pack. I just recently started using a Buck filet knife. Just got back from a trout trip and I like it so far.
Case knives are good, but not a good value to me. You can get as good a blade for a lot less money. Case seems to be more into the trinket & special occasion type knives anymore.
A brand I have been toying with is the French Opinel. I like the wood handles and the steel seems good. It would never replace my daily carry however.
A real value in my opinion in knives is the Mora knives from Sweden.

It would be very hard for me to operate in a situation like that. I came in to the office this morning and I'm tinkering with the sights on a pistol while I wait for one of the design engineers. A couple of the guys are leaving for a Philadelphia job and the owner just told them to make sure they are "fully packing".
Different worlds I guess.

I like the folding ones because they don't require a sheath and they are safer in my opinion.
my favorite hunting/trapping knife is the Browning model 503. [Linked Image]

This one is my daily carry Buck 311 trapper. Got my first one in 1974 when a buddy did basic training summer between or junior and senior year school. He knew I had wanted the knife looked at one in hardware store. I was waffling about the price. When he seen it in the PX for I think $9. He bought it for me. I had that knife from summer 1974 until summer 1984. I lost it the first time I volunteered to dive for kid that had drown. Figure I dropped it at the landing where I got dressed into my wetsuit at the back door of my van.
That started a couple years search to try replacing it. I actually thought I had ordered a replacement a couple times. Then get a notice say out of stock discontinued model. So I went a couple years carrying plain Barlow. Then I was in a hardware store with lots of old stock. They actually had one still on the card board display. So I ask if they by chance still had one in stock. Guy looked said nope just the one on the display. So I bought the one off the display. It was actually faded some on show side. That is the one pictured below probably bought around 1990???
Been in my pocket every day since. So has been in dozens of fires used on couple medical call. Skinned or cut on just about every kind of critters I have trapped or shot.
I did find another one at a flea market paid to much for..Got it stashed in draw Incase I loose this one.

I just put this one on watch on eBay. It's perfect.
IV always been a sucker for a nice pocket knife. Seems even the good ones aren't great anymore, though.

I love nives, and I have a few hand me downs from my husband's grandfather.
