I have four grandkids but only one grandson. I have never been so proud as when he killed a deer while sitting in my lap, one day before his 8th birthday. It was our first outing. Was the largest doe I have ever seen at our club. He made a perfect shot with a TC Carbine with a .223 bull barrel, using a 60 grain Nosler.
He has now taken several deer. Some were while in a stand with his dad, and finally by himself. When they kill one by themselves and you arrive to assist with the retrieval, the joy on their face is something a granddad will never forget.
Just a side note about father and son times together while hunting. I took my son on a deer hunt with dogs when he was about 7 or 8 years old. it was in the 1980s. We had our shotguns and a folding stool each. The ride in our truck was about two hours so we had a lot of time together - which I always enjoyed. As you can imagine, there was a lot of downtime when we just sat on our stools and could not hear any dogs. To pass the time, we discussed multiplication, from the very simplest to square roots. When I brought my son home that night, he understood multiplication and knew every table from 1-9 plus he understood square roots as well. It is unbelievable what a child can learn from his dad if all distractions are removed.

School tomorrow, that story will be told again and again. I remember that pride 45 years ago.
swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo
You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

He told me he can't wait to tell his story at school tomorrow. He said on Monday's, the teacher asks them to tell about what they did on the weekend. I would love to hear that story!
