14’ Jon with a mud motor. Light bars on front. I wired a ammo box for a control panel

I sure wouldn't want anything to do with a mud motor. Must work for some of you though.

Not sure how to post a picture, got a 1966 starcraft 16' v bottom. Ol beat up thing but catches a ton of fish. Just getting back into trapping so it may get some double duty trapping and waterfowling this here fall. I did buy a new 15hp 4 stroke suzuki efi for it. Will run 20-22 with just me, 16-18 with a buddy. Cant beat that efi.

If you read this you have better eyes than me. Put a 40 on it. I like it. My boat so my opinion is the only one that matters. When I bought it the grizzly 1548 had a 40hp max rating. The ones sold today its 25. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2024/11/full-320-237464-img_1335.jpeg)

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Most of the boats here are way overpowered from what the recommended max hp is listed as. Better yet is when it’s a homemade the sky is the limit, for hp, as there isn’t an official call out.

Might be a guideline, but a warden down here will ticket you for "overpowering" your boat. Took me several years to find an Alumacraft T16 XL that was rated 40 horse for my 35 horse long tail. Beefed up the transom with aluminum plating. New comparable boat today is only rated 25 horse.

That is silly. All in the guise of public safety. I bet.
I would venture to say that an overpowered boat is much safer than an underpowered boat. agreed better to get a load up on plane versus wallowing

my unsinkable ship I would opt for a 40HP for this craft. Gotta make sure it gets up on plane with a full load.

How do you like those navigation led strip lights. I like them, they are going on two seasons with no problems and are much brighter than the small ones you generally see on Jon boats
