What’s everyone thoughts on having tariffs placed on goods from Mexico, Canada and China?

It will be interesting to see what goods get the tariffs placed on them or maybe all imports from these countries will have tariffs imposed.

I certainly am not looking forward to having to pay more for my fresh produce or every thing we get from China.

Your thoughts. Will they work?

No idea. We'll see. I would hope it would influence some businesses to start up or come back to the states. Job creation is always good.

Can't be any worse than the increases we've seen the last 4 years.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Yes it can. Prices are already high. Tariffs will make them higher.

Like with any increase in production or labor costs, I think the cost will be passed on to the consumer. Mexico is ran by cartels-theyll just increase the price of fentanyl and meth and pay the tariffs to send their goods in, which will have dope concealed in it like always. More stuff will be stolen to pay for it by “consumers”. Hope Im wrong, but I dont get it.

The biggest hole in our national defense is our complete inability to manufacture even the simplest goods. Clothes, boots, steel. On top of that we dont manufacture key components of all the electronic stuff we depend so heavily on.

I saw from the catbird seat (semi truck) as Gary Pittsburg and Cleveland came apart. Saw The produce and citrus producers in CA and FL disappear. Watched much of the west expand beyond its ability to water itself for no apparent, to me, reason for such exponential growth.

We dont need Chinese goods. We didnt buy them 50-60-70 years ago. The country was prosperous. The rest of the world envied us. Walmart the number one purveyor of Chineseium, originally sold only US manufactured stuff. Sam Walton made money and prices were not awful. He put KMart and Gibson out of business by offering better goods and better customer service.

The time is near that Walmart will be toppled the same way KMart was.

It's dumb and it's going to raise the price of most of what we buy. Trump is an idiot, not a single clue in his head. Enjoy the higher prices!

Hard to compare 2024 to 1954 with regards to what the typical American needs as far as goods.

I'm all for Made in the USA, but we may want to dip our toe in the tech manufacturing biz before we tell China to pack sand. At least blow the dust off some of the rusted up cities full of closed down abandoned plants first.

Maybe rustle up a few workers too. Ones that will work for wages that allow us to knock out products that aren't ridiculous.

We will see how this is implemented and when and to what degree. If done as punishment to specific countries or goods that can get interesting. When and if put in place I feel many US wholesalers and retaiil firms will eat some of the increased costs but not nearly all of that. Some companies are already raising prices in anticipation of the tariffs being put in place. We also have to consider the fact that we are an exporting nation as well and other nations can put tariffs on our goods. If the dollar gets real strong which tariffs may help do then there maybe a stronger push by the world international banking system to find another universal currancy. The taruffs can also be used to favor specific products or businesses here in the US, making the private sector more political than it already is. US businesses can also raise their prices as foreign goods are more expensive. Due to the fact that we are in a consumer driven economy, inflation, and anything like tariffs etc. that drive up prices will hurt middle and lower income families and workers the most.

Rustling up a few workers is a no brainer. End unemployment compensation and cash/grocery programs. Put thieves in jail again.

Walmart cannot topple soon enough! Look what they did to small town America by killing all the mom and pop local stores.

Thank you Einstein. A very accurate and in depth description of tariff policy. We can all breath easier now.

Good article bowhunter. Unfortunately the TDS crowd won't read or comprehend any of it.

I wonder if prices will increase anywhere near the huge increases we saw due to "supply chain interruptions" during the fake covid crises years?

Asking for a friend.

I suspect the new Trump tariffs will have the same negligible effect on consumer goods prices as seen during the first round of Trump tariffs.

Eh...wot?
