We dont all need the same amount of sleep. Most I get is 5-6 and can get by on 4. One of the reasons I hate hours of service for truck drivers. 10 is not enough for a lot of people. if you can't sleep at all find somebody still putting up square bales. Spend a few days bucking bales. You will sleep.
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

last night was 8 with one pee break
a lot more often it is 6-7 not because of any inability to sleep ,but because I have to get up for work or just out of time.
I am typically falling asleep sitting up right before I go to bed my wife is not a morning person and I could go to bed at 9 every night and get up at 5
some things to try for sleeping better
kill the sugar. no coffee/caffeine 8 hours before bed get outside and get work in , firewood , hunting , at least a walk. something to get some physical movement in. eat 2 hours or more before you need to sleep and don't over eat. no tv or screens for 90 minutes before bed. screens keep your mind going and processing moving and blue light. schedule 8 hours with a 90 minute wind down. at that 90 minutes reduce to a lamp , music calm music , fire keep a note pad handy for thoughts that pop into your head , if you write them down they don't have to occupy space in your thought all night.
if you sleep with a partner , try a few nights without them. separate beds can make a difference if you keep each other up or she moves and rolls and that keeps waking you up. my wife and I sleep better in separate beds
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

when I'm working ( typically 16hr shifts) I usually have 4 hrs or so when I set the alarm. typically that's 85% of my life. On days off and I'm home and have more time to sleep I may think I'm going to sleep in and I guess I do but normally that's 6 hrs.
One of the hardest things and getting harder it seems each year is when I'm up 36 to 38 hrs strait usually about once a month. That when I get off a 16 hr night shift then head home on my last day of that work period. I tend to stay up all day and do things at the farm and with the kids after my 2.5 hr drive home. BUT at bed time for everyone instead of falling asleep I'm wide awake tell 2 or 3 in the morning. Used to be no big deal but as I get older it takes me a few days to recover and feel back to normal.
Now my wife can't function on less than 7 to 9 hrs.

Usually sleep about seven hours or so. For as long as I can remember, I get up every night at least once to do a walk through the house. Look around outside, sniff for smoke, check doors and windows, check on children when we had some still at home. Old habit.

Bed at 20:00 to read. Sleep at 21:00. Wake at 0130 Get up at 0200. 4.5 hours sleep. Been that way for 40 years. Hate it. Used to go to office and get paperwork done always at 3:00 a.m. To field at 07:30.

2 to 3 hours a night. I wake up every 15 minutes. I been a insomniac most of my life. Take melatonin every evening or wouldn't even get that much sleep. Benadryl works but continued use every day will give me nose bleeds. Bourbon works better than anything for me but I've grown away from drinking mass quantities of liquor the last 15 years.
