How do those tariffs affect the price of lumber in the u.s. ? It didn't cause a big increase in lumber prices. I believe a lot of tariff cost is absorbed by the various handlers of the products before it reaches the consumer level. In the case of construction grade lumber, which is the bulk of what we buy from Canada, I have seen no abnormal increases other than those caused by Covid in the last eight years. And those insane Covid and post-Covid prices returned almost to pre-Covid prices relatively quickly on solid wood (2 X 4's, etc.). Sheet goods adjusted downward but remain high. AK Timber Tramp, I don't doubt you but I do believe the red tape caused by tree-huggers is not a big factor, more like isolated incidents when the big picture is looked at. In my state of Pennsylvania the timber industry is the number one agricultural industry adding about 22 billion to the State's economy annually. Vast tracks of hardwood forests have been managed and harvested for centuries and I've never heard of tree-huggers trying to stop any of it. Maybe it's a west/northwest thing? I did notice a shift in local lumber yards away from as much Canadian lumber and towards more American-produced lumber. The US remains the # 1 producer of lumber in the world.

I’m not sure on that Boco. The tide did not turn in world war 2 until D day and D day would not have happened without everything America brought to the endeavor. Yes the Brits outlasted Germany in the skies over England for the win but crossing the channel was momentous.
A lot of countries including Canada paid a very big and brave price for those beachheads and the turning of the tide.
Osky better learn history than because germany was already losing the war if you think the turning point was d-day russia was killng germans by thousands daily and was screaming for a western front as german had poured all its armies into russia to stop the russian red machine, italy was 2/3 conquered and africa was already in allied hands and before you can say thats because the americans it was actually the british that kicked them out even than thats debatable as rommel had left his army and was in germany while the british and americans laid waste to his army way to many good young men died in those 10 years of war(including the first war)for leaders that thought that their country was greater than other countries yes the usa is great but defintly not better than the rest how do you think the production power or morale of usa would of faired if it was being bombed 24/7 like in britian germany and russia

Lugnut, that's because your old growth and even second growth stands have long since been wiped out, there's no reason to fight logging on the East Coast, your loggers are glorified farmers, they just harvest on a 30 year rotation. We have Sitka Spruce that were standing when Christ was on the cross, and those old monsters is what gets the enviros fired up. Even though if it doesn't get logged it'll topple sooner or later, everything has a lifespan, even if it's longer than our own. So where you are and where I am have an entirely different timber industry. Our junk wood is stud grade lumber, our high dollar timber is coffin wood and music wood. I have a friend that logs in PA, he said it's mostly pallet wood and pulp (which wouldn't even be considered decent firewood around here)

I think you’re missing my point. I was replying to Boco who said the war turned when Britain won its airspace. I don’t believe that to be totally true. You’re right K… the Brit’s and the US put the hammer down in Africa then up thru southern Italy, Patton and the mechanized were the American thrust there. The Russians with incredible numbers were turning the eastern front. The final hammer was D day as far as the allies sans Russia turning the tide. The air superiority over Europe was also a big deal but a lot of that heavy aircraft and those air crews were American as well. Were there any Canadians overhead? There sure could have been as in world war1 but I am not up on that. Osky.

I have a friend that logs in PA, he said it's mostly pallet wood and pulp (which wouldn't even be considered decent firewood around here) It's true we do not have old growth trees. The thirty-year rotation might be a softwood thing but quality hardwood stands are usually cut on a 75-125 year rotation. Your friend's experience is either solely with softwood or junk harvests or he's simply full of crap because Pennsylvania is known worldwide for producing some of the finest hardwoods available; red and white oak, hard and soft maple, black walnut, black cherry, hickory, etc.
Eh...wot?

He said it's a lot of poplar and whatever kind of pine you guys have down there. So yeah, junk. Our second growth patches are just starting to come up on harvest rotations in a few places, they're 80 years I think, but that's a different market. That'll all be domestic wood, used for construction and occasionally some crappy guitars, but it doesn't have the grain structure of old growth, so it can't make fancy pianos or nice guitars and violins. What species?
Eh...wot?

Just saw on TV that Canada had outlawed some more weapons and that they were seizing them and the would all be shipped to the county fighting Russia. They said they had already seized 2500 and would be getting more to ship soon.
