If anyone has been outside at -60 with a wind blowing you in the face, you’ll know it’s one of the coldest experiences you will ever have.

Forecast to get 3"plus snow here in Georgia at the Florida line this coming mid-week. Temps forecast not to rise above 33° to 35° F for more than 24 hrs.

That is incredibly cold for down here.

This was during the same time as what White17 talked about. We didn't get as cold as where he was, but it was a mighty cold two weeks. I think the warmest we got during that two week period was -50.

I saw triple digit below 0 wind chills here. I have a picture of the news paper clipping. I walked about four blocks from one shop to another. On the way over the wind was at my back, on the way back it was a little tuff.

Let Timber Tramp say what he wants. I've been at 75 below Fahrenheit for many days in McGrath. I've hunted ptarmigan at that temp! Yes, it was cold. any grease or oil on gun would gum up and not let it fire. Boil the lock in water, then alcohol and dry. Then it would fire. Official temp at FAA said -75, but that's as low as alcohol thermometers were calibrated, so that's what was reported. In actuality, FAA told me -85.

Well done, you and Husky both. Refreshing to see. Could have just as easily turned into a three page peeling match.

I started shingling a roof one morning and it was -28 no wind
Coldest morning checking traps it was -39 that was counting a light wind

I have thought that too, the limitation of the thermometers calibrated . I use a mercury one , I feel that is more accurate than a coil. The coldest for me was -40 . By the time the sun shone on my thermometer, it had warmed a little to - 35. This was last January. I got to try out my new Steger mukluks . They were perfect.

It was cold as well in the northern ranges , below Fairbanks, last March , out with JR on his trapline . Minus 20 something . Houses sure talk a lot the colder it becomes. And yes, the colder it is, it usually is dead calm.

Ice fished many mornings at -40°F sitting on a 5 gallon bucket with no hut. Have to keep skimming the hole. Caught a heck of a lot of walleye. Carhartt one piece suit, helmet liner for a hat, and red lined jersey gloves. Camped in a heated hut on the ice a week at a time. I sure do miss those trips to Canada on Lake Nipissing Haven't been up in over 10 years now.

Live in North Pole almost 44 years have seen -70 before. The coldest was on trap line was -56 with about a 35 mph wind the type of cold you expose no skin and never shut your machine off . This is last year on the way to airport headed to Mexico getting to old for this . [Linked Image]

My cut off for trapping was -30f. -30f and 25 mph on the snow machine is in the -60f temperature range. I found that not much moves when its over-40f anyway.
When I started in the 70's the sleds were fairly primitive compared to todays sleds Lousy hand warmers, headlights, tracks would lock up being cold. Belts would smoke and glaze trying to get going from camp when really old.

When the Tundras came out in the 1980's it revolutionized the utility (trapping) sleds. I trapped high country (high for the interior) and climbing in deep snow became a worth while investment. I ran an Alpine and it was great but side hilling and being heavy was an issue.

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

90k winds and the truck says -8C this morning. Found a broken tie and phases splashed together. No pics of the repair job though, those would get us fired with some of the stupid rules the "experts" make up for us.

We didn't see the sun in the valley for a month and it stayed below zero with the coldest nights -20 to -35. People were struggling to get theirs cars started. people were using electric blankets, heat lamps, space heaters or whatever to keep the oil warm enough to start their car. It was depressing. The only cool thing was how long all the ice crystals got on all the vegetation - that was very pretty. Luckily I could get in my patrol truck and go 20 or 30 minutes up north or south and get above the inversion. When I got above the clouds it was bright and sunny and got up into the 30s. Driving back home the top of the clouds almost looked like a white ocean. When you dropped into it you could immediatly feel the temperature drop and smell the pollution and wood smoke.

I would not want to live in a place where -30's and below is the norm! This year we've only got a couple skiffs of snow that melted right off. The coldest night so far was probably about 15. It's been a very mild enjoyable winter and I haven't missed moving snow. I just hope we get more in the mountains and some good spring rains.

Why not plug in the block heaters?? Seems easier

The people that had them were smiling big. Most of us didn't have them. Everyone was trying to buy and install them but demand far outpaced the supply. My 85 Toyota 4 banger always started and my state truck started (warmed it up before I went to bed and covered the hood with sleeping bags). My wife' s car required a heat lamp and a covered hood.

I imagine every vehicle where you live has a block heater.

United we stand.

Starting vehicles at -60 is a chore that I never look forward to doing. The batteries regularly go dead when it is that cold. Jump starting them requires a vehicle that is already running. And that is not always the case!

-38. The lake was making ice so fast that it sounded like a distant thunderstorm.

You got the troublemaker found that is a good thing. Sometimes the hardest part was to find the problem in those conditions.
Thanks and have a good one.

I saw a picture this morning and it said it was west of me in ND. It looked much the same. I thought it was the same picture, until I went back and looked.
