For those of you that had a total knee replacement, are you able to kneel down or is there a lack of flexibility and/or too much discomfort preventing you to do so?

Both h my parents have had knees replaced. Time and movement is necessary to help with flexibility.

Had 1 knee done 2 weeks ago today. OT and PT. Get it done as young as you can. Work out the good leg for a couple of months in advance to help recovery. Good luck.

I’ve had a partial and a total knee replaced. I have complete use of that totally replaced knee BUT I worked my rear off with PT to make it so. Lots of OW-OW-OW! My wife also has a total knee replacement and she does not have full recovery. The one big deal for me is that when I bend down on that knee there is only skin between the artificial knee and the surface I’m kneeling on and that hurts! LOL

I’m 78 and I will NEVER get the other knee replaced. Nope, not ever another one!

I'm at 18 months past a knee replacement. I can kneel down with it but like stated above not for long. Doctor told me it takes about 2 years for all the muscles to get fully healed.

Plenty of people in my family has had it done. Can not emphasize enough to do all the rehabilitation exercises. DO THOSE EXERCISES!!! my dad did less than minimal on his first knee and only had about 70% of the expected mobility. He learned and exercised as he needed for the second one and it was a world of difference. Few others I know had the same issues

Wife is 6 weeks out. She is the poster child for knee replacement recovery. She's done everything the doctors and physical theropist has asked her to do, no short cuts. She can kneel, but usually uses some sort of padding; pillow or towel. Getting her other knee done in March. Her flexibility is better than presurgery.

Mine got a bad infection. Six months of IV antibiotics and four surgeries and a second knee six years later.

No kneeling and absolutely cannot put that knee on the ground. First surgery was 8/2006. Has hurt every day since then. No surgeon will touch it now.

I had right knee replaced 7 years ago. Wear knee pads. Middle of February. Caught 150 coyotes the following season. So was up and down, 300 times for sure. With few fox, badgers and coon probably up and down 400 times. With a lota PT and self determination and knee pads, kneeling isn’t a big deal

Have both knees replaced 3 yrs apart. Highly recommend the knee bending machine for PT. Scar tissue got me twice, that machine helped me greatly. You will be able to bend down ,I learned different ways up & down on my knees, I can't move as fast. If I have to be on my knees I also wear knee pads, and I got a real good pr. Do your PT, everyday, on time and no short cuts. It will be painful, first 2 days. But If you want relief and recovery, PT, in my opinon more important then surgery. Most walking in week. I had scar tissue took me month, but was walking with cane in 2 wks. Darn glad I only had 2 legs and knee caps

Had both replaced at the same time, did the PT and more on my own, have full flexibility, but kneeling without knee pads is a no no...I don't think you can damage them but its very uncomfortable..
I was back to work on the boat in 7 weeks...You don't need the PT for the replacements, you need it to stretch out the muscles and ligaments to regain flexibility and range of motion....yeah, it hurts, but without it you won't regain your complete range of motion....

My wife had one of hers replaced 2 springs ago. Definitely do what's mentioned above about the PT and exercises. She has regained her mobility and strength. She can kneel down but still some pain once in awhile. She also started going back to the gym and has passed all or her personal bests from when she was younger.
Her dad had both his knees replaced back in November and is getting along pretty good. He is a farmer and raises cattle so he is always moving around or jumping in some tractors. If you want to talk with her about how it all went let me know. We make it down to IF regularly.

I'm going under the knife on Feb 7th. I'm doing PT twice a day and I'm up to 80 reps on each exercise.

I had a total knee replacement done about 3 years ago. Except for a few weeks right after the surgery and the start of therapy it's really been just a small bump in the road. My knee does click with every step but I do anything I want and never give the knee a second thought. But I do wear a good pair of knee pads when I want to work on stuff at or near the ground. The knee was a piece of cake ...along with a hip replacement. But just had major back surgery and after 5 weeks it's still kinda putting a crimp in my life activities ! Good Luck !!!

I had mine replaced on April 29th of 2024. Not quite a year but it has been the best thing I ever did. My job duties require me to be on my knees, so PT made sure I was able to kneel before I was done. Can I kneel yes, and I can get by pretty good, but a set of knee pads is like not even having a new knee in my opinion. I had spent the $2000 out of my own pocket and had the Iovera injection done a week before surgery and I would do that again in a heartbeat. I had no pain at all. Went down the basement steps the first day home like a breeze. But do what the doctor say's and you will be fine. Good luck not everyone is the same.

Right done in 2020 and left done 7 weeks ago. Kneeling hurt on the right without a pad so always kneeled on left. That is not an option now so will use a kneeling pad when necessary. All other daily operations are no problem. Repeating what everyone else said —do the exercises, physical therapy will hurt a lot if they are doing it right. T-7 weeks and pretty much back to normal. Dr. Cleared me for all activities at week 6. I asked about cutting wood and he said wait a couple weeks on that one. Didn’t say I couldnt split wood so been doing that. smile

I did have trouble getting my new knee and leg to straighten so I’d lay on the floor with my foot elevated and place a 10lb weight on the knee for 1/2 hr twice a day. I remember a lot of pain about the 20 min mark!
