In 1776 the US population was 2.5 million, but 450,000 of those were slaves, so nothing changed for them. So, the revolutionary war increased freedom for about 2 million Americans. In 1865, there were 4 million slaves that won their freedom. So, the civil war freed about twice as many Americans as the revolutionary war. Plus, the freedom gained by black slaves in the civil war was a much bigger leap than the freedom gained by white Americans in the revolutionary war.
