So anyone love or hate them? I’ve had one about 3 years, uses very little but now
can’t get pilot to stay lit. Read about cleaning area with rubbing alcohol but didn’t do
the trick? About to throw in trash Looking at dewalt but pricey?

Not a Mr Buddy, but my propane heater in my greenhouse gets like that every few years and I need to take a thin wire and clean out the pilot gas tube.

Buddy heaters will drive a guy nuts sometimes. I don't image other manufacturers are much different.

First thing I'd check is the pilot tube. I've had critters build cocoons in them.

I have one doing the same thing. They are made to throw away, Repair cost is almost half as much or more than a new one.

I was told the orifices need cleaning now and then.I don't know if you take a compressor to them or what.

Air compressor and blow the crud out of lines.

Have 2 different sizes of Buddy. One probably 15 years old. Maybe cleaned it once. No problems.

If pilot is strong but goes out when you release button it’s
Thermal coupler.
I have one about 12 years old. Use it couple times a year. But I use 20 lb cylinder on mine. Don’t know if that gas anything to do with it. Never had a small cylinder attached to it

Make sure pilot is hitting end of thermal coupler. If it has moved it can effect it

They suck. I never have had one that worked right. When they do work they are pretty good, but they are very finicky. Any draft will cause them to go out.
Does anyone have an alternative?

And,
I've found using a filter on propane helps alot!

I use propane instead of acetylene for my torch and had problems until I put filters on it also.

The directions on them say to use a filter if using a hose is what I was told when I was given the one that I got going by blowing it out.
