Hello all. First post here. Is there a magic bait for coons? I have 25 acres that is mixed timbers and a wet weather creek. I’ve caught a few on marshmallows, cat food and tuna. Now they don’t want anything. I had them nosing my cat food with crawdad oil on it last night (DP trap). They were busy eating corn from my feeder. I had 10 traps out last night & didn’t even catch a possum. I watched 3 coons walk right past the DPs with no concern. Is it like trot lining? Some times they just don’t want what I would consider a ribeye for them? Thanks in advance!

Sometimes they just arent interested. Trail cams are pretty humbling if you use them. Just have to keep an assortment out and find what they want or find trails and blind set em.

Yeah. If I only had trail cams on a couple. I actually have surveillance cameras on a couple of spots. That’s when I watched one go to the DP and it might have licked it! Added bacon grease to some tonight.

A sure fire, always works bait does not exist, especially with DPs. Best bet is to use a variety of stuff and change things up when you see evidence of bait being ignored. Good luck!

If these dps are on trails, use snares or body grippers. Hunger wont matter

So far tonight they are ignoring the bacon grease. Even the possum is ignoring it and the fruity coon juice! I need to turn off my feeders and start loading a bunch of DPs with corn!!
Well, thanks for the feedback. I’ll get some more variety. I have 220s also but can’t set those outside of a cubby box. No good enough trails and lots of dogs roaming our land.

Blind set the feeder area. Also put the dp's in the feeeder area. Seems like you know what they are eating but you are trying to get them to eat something they dont want.... I think you are on the right track. You might try some vorn along the woodline to see if you can stop them before they get to the feeder

In late season like this sometimes they have other things in their mind than food too. Try a real change up like a good coon gland lure in bottom of the DP on cotton ball under the trigger. And honestly any fox or mink gland lure works too.
I had better luck on late season coon when I didn’t use bait just a good gland lure under the trigger. Blackies boars delight is a good coon gland lure. Also a good loud predator bait seems to work for me too when traditional coon foods don’t seem to interest them.
This is a tip I’ve used from Dobbins land trapping book and it works with DPs too for me but best this late.
DPs are a good tool but should never be the only tool in coon arsenal or you will miss a lot of coon. Have you tried cages also since you have dogs roaming around? And most coon trails have really tight spots where you can set footholds and be pretty coon specific.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
