Turn off you cell phone. Or at least silence it. Just had an unfortunately timed phone call while watching my coyote bait pile.

It happened to me once while spring turkey hunting. I was working a big gobbler and he was just about in range. My cell phone rang and I was busted.

I always silence it before hunts now.

Eh...wot?

D’oh!!!!

Guess you can consider the silence button your phone’s “safety”!

When hunting I have my ringtone set to a sound that's not alarming to the animals if I happen to get a call
Right now it's set on fawn destress, I'll change it as needed for different hunting situations

it amazes me that people can't leave their cell phones at home even when out hunting.

of course I don't ever carry a cell phone so it just might be me.

That’s because our phones are also our GPS’s. Why carry both when I can talk and text on one as well?

Have a neighbor that had his almost new phone shut off and lost it between his tree and car and never found it (if there was any safeguards for finding it he didn't have it). My question is why take the phone in the first place? If you think you might break a leg then get a $40 burner phone and keep it off in your pocket.

For example sometimes while chasing deer on the snow I will come out of the woods miles away from my truck.I can just call the wife or other relatives to get a ride to my truck.

My cell phone is as important a part of my hunt as the gun, ammo, etc.

It has all the weather info, mapping and landlines info, GPS tracking, etc....and I can take photos of and after the hunt.

I dont forget to turn the sound off just like I don't forget to take ammo with me...same concept.

If I don’t check in with my mom like every fifteen minutes she will come looking for me and REALLY spoil my hunt! laugh

Moose genuinely don't care about your presence or what sounds you make. The deer in southeast are weird, if you put on camouflage and walk through the timber, they'll stay a mile ahead of you and ghost you. If you throw on a hickory shirt and climb into a logging crummy and do 45 mph down the road, they'll sit in every clear cut and stare at you like they're frozen

No body here has mentioned putting it on vibrate only?!?!

I leave the cell in the car while fishing hunting and trapping 95% of the time. I have no use for it while doing these pursuits personally.

Some people get separation anxiety just not having it on them for a few minutes. I lived at least 50 years of my life without one and never had a problem

One year in a blind I had mine on vibrate and whitetail detected that sound.

I like to listen to podcasts while out fishing so I don't usually leave it in my car. It's my emergency 911 line, GPS, map, and mp3 all in one device. Actually I get phone calls while checking traps or fishing pretty regularly, especially since I might be out for hours at a time. I usually silence it when hunting in particular since noise matters, but sometimes you forget.

Edit: Also keep digital copies of my licenses on my phone cause I tend to get the paper copies wet somewhat frequently.
