It happened to me once while spring turkey hunting. I was working a big gobbler and he was just about in range. My cell phone rang and I was busted.
I always silence it before hunts now.
Eh...wot?

Turn off you cell phone. Or at least silence it. Just had an unfortunately timed phone call while watching my coyote bait pile. When hunting I have my ringtone set to a sound that's not alarming to the animals if I happen to get a call Right now it's set on fawn destress, I'll change it as needed for different hunting situations

it amazes me that people can't leave their cell phones at home even when out hunting.
of course I don't ever carry a cell phone so it just might be me.
For example sometimes while chasing deer on the snow I will come out of the woods miles away from my truck.I can just call the wife or other relatives to get a ride to my truck.

My cell phone is as important a part of my hunt as the gun, ammo, etc.
It has all the weather info, mapping and landlines info, GPS tracking, etc....and I can take photos of and after the hunt.
I dont forget to turn the sound off just like I don't forget to take ammo with me...same concept.

No body here has mentioned putting it on vibrate only?!?!
I leave the cell in the car while fishing hunting and trapping 95% of the time. I have no use for it while doing these pursuits personally.
Some people get separation anxiety just not having it on them for a few minutes. I lived at least 50 years of my life without one and never had a problem

One year in a blind I had mine on vibrate and whitetail detected that sound.

I like to listen to podcasts while out fishing so I don't usually leave it in my car. It's my emergency 911 line, GPS, map, and mp3 all in one device. Actually I get phone calls while checking traps or fishing pretty regularly, especially since I might be out for hours at a time. I usually silence it when hunting in particular since noise matters, but sometimes you forget.
Edit: Also keep digital copies of my licenses on my phone cause I tend to get the paper copies wet somewhat frequently.
