Trapping otters is a lot like turkey hunting for me. Most times they are smart and can make you look like a fool. But some times they are the most careless things in the world.
They will absolutely stick their head where it doesn't belong, but don't count on that being the norm
Gotta live up to the nickname...

on choke points lots of otter have been taken in 220 I sometimes think otter see a smaller as a challenge. Most of mine have been taken in 220's. Caught 1 in a bottom edge set for mink swam to the deep water . I thought someone stole my trap have heavy weight or tie off well. Had one in a 160 BE set also. Barely even moved the KB stabilizer I had it on. Those belisle 160s don't mess around.

Had a friend try in this area with 220 cubbies. He prebaited the boxes until they were eating from them and then set the 220's. They never came near the boxes again.

I have caught 2 otter in Belisle 120's that were set for mink in boxes. Not at all what I was even remotely expecting, or would ever recommend. I had to dis-assemble the traps to get the heads out.
Just doing what I want now.

And make sure the trap is SOLIDLY anchored with 1/8" cable or strong chain, and swivels. They will spin like a top.

….stick it’s head into a 160 in a cubby set? Thanks in advance And make sure the trap is SOLIDLY anchored with 1/8" cable or strong chain, and swivels. They will spin like a top. As others say - Why a 160?? But swivels are pretty much needed for otter. Swivels PLURAL
TILL THAT DAY.....
