It wouldn't be my first choice, but wouldn't doubt one might do it.

Trapping otters is a lot like turkey hunting for me. Most times they are smart and can make you look like a fool. But some times they are the most careless things in the world.

They will absolutely stick their head where it doesn't belong, but don't count on that being the norm

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I sometimes think otter see a smaller as a challenge. Most of mine have been taken in 220's.

Had one in a 160 BE set also. Barely even moved the KB stabilizer I had it on. Those belisle 160s don't mess around.

Caught otter in 160's set for rats in small streams and BE sets like other people stated. Never one in a cubby set.

I wouldn't specifically plan on it, but stranger things have definitely happened. Lots of otters have been caught in 160's and some even shove their heads through 120's (don't ask me why). A #220 is better, a #280 is perfect

Had a friend try in this area with 220 cubbies. He prebaited the boxes until they were eating from them and then set the 220's. They never came near the boxes again.

I have caught 2 otter in Belisle 120's that were set for mink in boxes. Not at all what I was even remotely expecting, or would ever recommend.
I had to dis-assemble the traps to get the heads out.

Just doing what I want now.

Maybe he will, maybe he won't. Otters are otters, they do what they want. I catch tons of them in buckets so you could catch one in a cubby with a 160. I would recommend a 220 or 280, but if you can narrow down the approach he will stick his head in a 160. Make sure that 160 has strong springs as an otter is tough.

And make sure the trap is SOLIDLY anchored with 1/8" cable or strong chain, and swivels. They will spin like a top.

As others say - Why a 160??
But swivels are pretty much needed for otter. Swivels PLURAL
