Some say they need at least 24 hr period for cancellations or we will be charged. I've been waiting for 30 minutes now. Is my time not important? Can I back charge the doctor?

Changed doctors several years ago because of the ridiculous weights that started after his divorce. 45 min to hour 15 in the waiting room than another 30+ once taken back to a room.

I did notice a lot of young attractive female drug reps frequently in the back of the office during this time also. Sad he was our doctor for years but the he flaked out.

I try to have my appointments first thing in the morning or at the end of the day to not miss much work. Last time I went in my yearly check, from check-in to being done with the Dr was 15-20 minutes tops. When done, he said wait here and the nurse will come get you. Luckily I wasn’t in a hurry, I answered a bunch of emails and other work related things. 45 minutes later the janitor comes in and asks if I was still waiting to be seen. Said nope, waiting on nurse to be checked out, been waiting a long time. She said it’s a good thing we check rooms.. Them and 1 receptionist were the only people left in the building

Always get there for the first appointment 7:40. It is scheduled for 20 minutes. I get in right away. But most often we talk for 45 or more minutes. I would hate to be the next in line. He is always booked 3 months out. If you need to see him on a specific day you most often need to call early am 3 months to the day you need.

Can’t compare it. You need them more than they need you.

Many will take few if any Medicaid patients because of the high "no-show" rate.

I read of a story a few years ago.

An attorney showed up promptly 15mins before his dentist's appointmented time. Checked in with staff and had a seat in the waiting room. Due to delay after delay he finally got to see the dentist 1 hour and 45 minutes past his appointment time. The attorney spent a total of 2 hours waiting.

An attorney's time per hour is just as valuable as a dentist.

The attorney went after the dentist for the lost valuable time.

The dentist caved and paid the attorney because it was cheaper than going to court , plus the attorney had a very solid case.

No waits at my Doctor's. I must be lucky. Or maybe it's how I schedule THEM.
I do make sure I schedule my appointment first thing after lunch. Most Dr.s this is one o'clock. This way I'm the first person on the list. Been booking my appointments like this for years. It also lets me trap, hunt and fish in the morning hours like I want.

Pick another doctor if you don't like something about your current one.

I get there a bit early. Always get in early or right on time.

There are some patients that have very serious problems, and the Dr. needs to spend extra time with them. Some just may have a little Boo-boo. Also an emergence may have popped up in the course of the day. Have some patients and wait for your turn.

My time is worth more than that. I'm more important than you think.

I'm not either an attorney or dentist. Does that mean my time isn't valuable?

I wish I had a dollar for every-time a plumber, electrician, carpenter, cable repair, deliveryman - etc - showed up late. The delivery guys and cable tv guys tell you they will either be there morning or afternoon. That means you have to be there for at least four hours waiting - and then they are often late. They make Dr visits look like a well oiled machine.

My son is a Dr. He said it is a pain in the butt when they have an emergency on clinic day and he is in the OR saving some guys life and miss 15 scheduled clinic appts and have to listen to all the complaining about cancelled appts and then have to work them into the schedule. He knows it is a pain in the rear end - but said they have yet to come up with a better way. It is a part of life. Doctors experience the same thing. Just grit your teeth and move on.

There are some doctors who won't take Medicare patients. No money in it for them.

It's not always about catching fish. That's what people who don't catch fish usually say.

Easy solution. I get that things happen. Everyone's time is important though too, so if we pay for a cancelation without enough time, then we get a discount for waiting too long or a doctor can't make it. It's not personal, it's just "policy".
