Alcohol itself might not have a purpose but the drinks themselves do. Diffirent drinks can help enhance a meal. It's why coffee and sweets are served together a lot. The bitterness of coffee nullifies the sweetness of whatever dessert you have. .

The taste of the wine of beer may very well make the meal taste better. The alcohol does not help with this. If you drink too many and decide to have more food than you would have otherwise, that is not healthy and directly attributable to the effects of the alcohol itself. If we are honest, this happens when we have maybe even just one too many. Been there, done that.

Sniper this one seems more appropriate for this thread... "I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, the sinners are much more fun."

I know. No one makes gluttonous decisions because of alcohol.

Sadly, I fail to keep up with that practice.

The following statement is attributable to:
Bruce A. Scott, M.D.
President, American Medical Association

“The American Medical Association applauds the Surgeon General’s work to make completely clear the link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk. For years, the AMA has said that alcohol consumption at any level, not just heavy alcohol use or addictive alcohol use, is a modifiable risk factor for cancer. And yet, despite decades of compelling evidence of this connection, too many in the public remain unaware of alcohol’s risk. Today’s advisory, coupled with a push to update the Surgeon General’s health warning label on alcoholic beverages, will bolster awareness, improve health, and save lives.”

Isn't that the same group that said the covid shots were safe and effective? Do you know of anything that is not linked to cancer.

For decades doctors have Said a Glass of wine a day is good for you.

And things always have and always will change over time. Blood letting was once seen as an acceptable way to decrease blood pressure. That changed because they found out it wasn't a good way to lower BP.

Holes can be poked in just about anything as there are very few scientific laws. But overall, alcohol is being seen more and more as the worst thing you can put in your body. Just think about the people you know that watch their diet, work and work out hard and get good sleep.

Now think about those that drink a 6 pack a day, two glasses of wine a day, or a shot or two a day. None of them are as healthy as those who do not drink.

And let's be honest. One glass of wine a day? Seriously? How many people do you know who only drink 1/day? Come on man!!

Again and AGAIN, drink all you want. You are a grown man who can do as he pleases. Just live in reality.

BAN THE INTERNET and pass the liquor bottle!!! Everyone knows typing on the computer is a whole lot worse than drinking alcohol. Think of the lives and families that have been ruined and killed due to too much internet.

Oh the humanity!!!

Don't drink to speak of but not against it either, have one or so a year. Water will rust the pipes.

I don’t need to drink I can be whatever I need to be sober with less regrets it just never appealed to me. I’ve seen over the years the people and relationships it’s ruined with intelligent folks doing stupid things losing careers or dying it makes no sense. A LOT of folks try to reason away their problems with it in many ways just mention restrictions on their drinking to get their reactions it will surprise you.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!
