no typically it's those with the most brovo that tend to end up on their knees. or in combat the big guy everyone thinks will be the stud that freezes up and the small wimp turns out to be the medal of honor recipient.

OP, I'll try turn it back to the original subject.
Physical silver and other precious metals are a poor investment vehicle. If your intent is an investment there are better precious metal vehicles other than physical.

gold keeps going up, up and up 2625 right now. Gold up nearly $1000, silver up about $3. Interesting to say the least.

20 ounces of gold ($50,000) will fit into the palm of your hand. $50,000 worth of silver weighs 114 pounds. Which would you rather have during a real crisis? Good point, but there is a glitch to that. In a real economic crisis, and you need to buy something, how will you get change back? Most people will want to give you change in paper money, so it might pay to have a mix of silver and gold, more invested in gold ,but you'll need silver for small things. And, to be certain gold and silver are not real "investments that will earn interest, they are insurance against catastrophic economic failure.

The idea is that in the future you cash in your gold incrementally, as needed, for the inflated currency of that time.

In 870AD for three ounces of silver you could buy an Irish slave girl in Dublin.

I am putting all my money into beer cans. You are smarter than me, I have taken most of my money out of beer cans, after putting it in.

I would never buy bar silver of gold….. Why? I the world ever went to heck, what are you going to do shave off a piece? I can leave or enter the county with $9,999.00 gold eagles legally. 9,999x 3,318=33,176,682

You will pay $2 dollars over spot to buy and sell $2 under spot to sell. So when you sell the price will need to be &4 dollars over what spot was when you bought it. Silver seldom sells for $4 dollars more than what you paid. Let’s say it went up $6 bucks you’re now able to make $2 on rack ounce you bought. So if you bought fifty ounces you would make a $100 bucks. Is this really worth your time? Just asking.

I would never buy silver over gold as a hedge. I can buy a one ounce gold maple leaves right now for $36 over spot, that's a 1% premium. About the best you can do on silver right now is $3 over spot. That's about a 10% premium. Besides, look at the performance of gold over silver for the past few months, silver sucks. Like the PGM's, silver is an industrial metal, they have not been doing so well in the past couple of years.

I've been thinking about selling old, US some silver coins. What's the best way to do it?
Keith Depends how much you are trying to move. Don't expect more than spot & feel lucky to get that. Here in Berks County, I can buy all I want for $2 over spot. Those same dealers will pay spot. A few years back I was offered more than spot for pre 1965 half dollars. That offer came with a 1099. I can no longer wholesale above spot. So go to your local coin shop and hold out for spot. If they want to give you a 1099 go to a different shop.
