What ever happened to French Quebec pulling out and starting their own country? And what about Nova Scotia, PE Island and Newfoundland? Whose side are they on?
Easy to vote your way into socialism, but impossible to vote your way out of it.

Today's topic.
Canada’s election.
On Monday, Canada held a federal election for members of the House of Commons to the 45th Parliament. The Liberal Party, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, won a plurality of seats, securing a fourth consecutive term in power. The Conservative Party placed second, and party leader Pierre Poilievre lost his seat, casting his political future into doubt. While the Liberals did not take enough seats to win a majority, as the party that received the most votes they will now put forward their party leader, Carney, to retain his position as prime minister.
The Liberals’ victory marks a rapid turnaround from the start of 2025, when the Conservatives were heavily favored to win. The race shifted in early 2025, when President Donald Trump proposed tariffs on Canadian imports and comments about annexing Canada became a defining issue of the race.
Back up: In January, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation as leader of the Liberal Party, which then elected Carney as his replacement. Shortly after becoming prime minister in March, Carney called for a snap election. The maximum time between federal elections in Canada is five years, but they can be held sooner if the prime minister asks the governor general to dissolve Parliament, prompting a snap election.
The four largest parties competing in Monday’s election were the Liberals, Conservatives, the New Democratic Party (NDP), and Bloc Québécois (which only fields candidates in the province of Quebec). These parties compete for seats in 343 ridings — or electoral districts — across Canada, with each riding representing a seat in Parliament’s House of Commons. Before the Parliament’s dissolution in March, the Liberals held 153 seats, the Conservatives held 120, the Bloc Québécois held 33, and the NDP held 24.
As of Tuesday, the Liberal Party had won 169 ridings, the Conservatives 144, Bloc Québécois 22, and the NDP 7. 172 seats are required for a majority — and to elect a prime minister — so Liberals will now have to work with a minority party to elect Carney as prime minister and pass legislation.
Poilievre, the Conservative Party leader since 2022, built his campaign on affordability issues, tax cuts, and criticisms of Liberal Party rule under Trudeau. He also pushed back on President Trump’s calls to make Canada a U.S. state, pledging to “put Canada first” if elected, which drew a rebuke from Trump. Poilievre’s leadership guided Conservatives to a 24-point polling advantage before Trump’s inauguration, but that lead had dwindled and was nearly erased by the time Carney called for a snap election in March.
Carney ran as an outspoken critic of President Trump, promising to maintain Canada’s retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports and diversify the country’s alliances and trade relationships. In his acceptance speech on Monday, the prime minister said, “As I’ve been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country… President Trump is trying to break us so he can own us. That will never happen.” However, Carney also spoke with Trump in late March and said the two agreed to open talks on a new economic and security deal with whomever won the election. On Tuesday, Trump called Carney to congratulate him on his victory, and Carney’s office said the two agreed to work together “as independent, sovereign nations.”
Eh...wot?

As long as Canadians appreciate their government, that’s all that matters. Lord knows I don’t understand ours well enough to explain it to Canadians. So I don’t want to raise feathers trying to get Canadians to explain theirs to me. This is a trapping site. Let’s stick to what we agree on.

Try see how that goes on a spring goose hunt now…lol. Until a few months ago, there was trump paraphernalia all over. Gotta remember what demograph of people live here in the green circle. But that doesn’t explain it either when you look to northwestern Ontario and northern Alberta? It’s a mess and we can all agree that a Dem/Lib government is trouble for all of us. We’re lucky enough that for now, our fur is managed on science for the most part. The Natives & Metis have a lot of pull and they don’t want to destroy their heritage anymore than they already have.

Eastern province of Quebec is forever green and the evidence suggests that. No drilling, no mining, no pipelines but they want albertas cash cow. Interprovincial trade barriers leave Alberta no choice but to sell to the United States. Canada, because of its resources might possibly be the richest country on planet earth but because of liberal policy has a smaller GDP than our poorest state. That’s pretty accurate. But I guess I’ll have to give Carney a chance. The NDP & Bloc (Bloc shouldn’t even be in there cuz they’re Que only) will hold the swing in parliament. But the NDP is in the situation they’re in right now because of backing the Libs basically turning them into a majority government…..we’ll see.

Watching an interview with the Prime Minister of Alberta and would like you folks from up north to explain your government to us poor folks down here. I understand there appear to be 3 political parties, that Alberta seems to be getting the shaft due to the left leaning eastern provinces support of formally Trudeau and now Carney, and the belief in the eastern provinces of forever green, even though real facts don't support that position.
So, what about Manitoba, Sask, Alberta, and British Columbia. Other than Alberta are they all to left leaning to prevent all of those provinces together from making important change for overall better economy for Canada? Western Canada gets the shaft because of an unfair electoral system ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/05/full-20026-256558-img_2738.png) Too many takers in eastern Canada ,,,,,not enough makers The confederation experiment has failed,,,,40+ years of “screw the west,,,we’ll take rest” is about to come home to roost It’s actually an exciting time for western Canadians An amazing new country may about to be formed

Have you guys reached the point of no return, as in are the conservatives outnumbered to the point they won't win again like some of our states are now?

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.
