There will always be cash or currency in some form. Rural areas will always use it whether legal or not....

Some form of currency will always be around, even if it's not government-issued bills and coins. We have a history of it here, just look at the whiskey tax, and the whiskey rebellion. Farmers were distilling their extra grain into whiskey and using the whiskey as a form of currency, and got rightfully (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) when the new federal government demanded that a tax on that whiskey be paid in cash.

Back then, when the government forced an unwanted form of money on the people, they rebelled by tarring and feathering the tax collector, riding him out of town on a rail, and burning down his house.

Stop buying from places that don't take cash. Walk in and try to pay with cash and when they say they don't take cash, walk out and don't go back.

Be a bad for America if cash is not a legal way of trading. I think the idea is BS.

Self check out will start being cards or apps only. It's easy to implement, hard to go back to normal. We could just start trading furs or goods for services, and ignore the stupid rules.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Actually we have several little jog in the road country stores that will give you a discount of what ever the fee is charged by the credit cards off esp. on gas.

The instigators of a cashless society use the cost of making money as an excuse to forgo cash, while promoting charging the store a use fee on every transaction which will funnel back to you. You get charged a % every transaction where as we only have to pay to make a dollar bill one time and use it til its wore out.
Well at least the banks are making money.

Two years ago in Sweden it was plastic only. I never even saw a kronor transaction. Even street beggars had card readers.

In Oregon a state law was recently passed requiring all places to accept cash. But some haven't got the word. At our farmers market it used to be 100% cash. Now it is about 60-40 plastic.

I got a friend at church whose brother died in Arizona. His daughter got him a plane ticket for St. Louis. He got over there and had some luggage that was extra and he owns no credit or debit cards. He had cash and they wouldn't take it. He and a girl was getting into it and she called the manager. My friend Bob was ready to fight as he wasn't missing that funeral and he had to have his clothes that was in that suitcase. Well before things got out of hand the manager couldn't take cash but he could wave the charges, so that is what they did.

Similar thing happened to a driver I had.

Took his woman to the city for their anniversary. Went to a nice steakhouse and he put cash in the folder for the bill.
Waitress came, looked inside and said they don't take cash. He informed her they don't have credit cards and she might as well call the police because cash is all he has.

Another waitress ended up putting it on her card and took his cash, the waitress that waited on him didn't have one either, lol.

Cash is still king, but they're making it tough.

Every concert or sporting event I've went to in the past few years has been cash free.

If you dont have a CC, they have machines at the venues that will convert your cash into a free "gift card" basically for using at the event.

I can appreciate not having a credit card, but not having a debit card at least seems like it'd be difficult to do anything. No online purchasing would be hard in this day and age

Here's another interesting issue I've seen locally lately. Seems a lot of places charge a surcharge if you pay with a card. Same places give a discount for cash. What is the sticker price based on? Had some work done on the wives car a month ago. Was like $1,500. Place told me there'd be a 3% surcharge for paying with a card. OK, I'll go get cash. Showed back up, shelled out the bills and she says, there's a 5% discount for cash. Cool, but I have to know, how do you pay and get the price you quoted? Check? Bullion? She just laughed and said no ones ever asked that crazy Local pizza place does the same thing, discount for cash and surcharge for cards.

This last Saturday at the Farmers market my effective charge from Square reader was 4.5%. So for every $100 i take in I'm losing four and a half on card purchases. What kind of burns me is most people prefer to pay with a card because of the cash back incentives.

I use e-checks quite alot. My auto insurance and State of Illinois license and taxes I use e-check. If I use credit or debit they charge me 3% to 5% extra, The checks still have to be run thru an Automated Clearing House but it must be cheaper that way for some reason.

Pay attention when you sign up for Social Security to the questions they ask you they are troubling if you think about it. Very personal financial information they already know and you just have to verify it they already have it.

Law Dog, by statute they have to go to the ummmppptt level to verify who we are. Makes sense to keep fraud down.
