I hope it doesn't get worse
Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Be kind of nice if we could have one summer without canada being on fire. It’s not like the US isn’t on fire every year too. That’s what forests do, they either get harvested or they burn eventually. Canada has lots of forest and only so many guys harvesting it. California is the real dog and pony show, they have less land mass, more infrastructure, and half the state still burns down every year. | | |

Smoke from our fires hazing the southern skies doesn’t even register on our list of concerns. Right now it’s about life & property. I already lost a coworker and his wife near Lac du Bonnett. When you get told to leave, leave. Don’t pack your crap and cherished heirlooms.
Thank you for the 125 US firefighters coming to Manitoba to help!

In addition; logging (aka: harvesting) is nearly non-existant on state or federal lands in California now, so the fuels just keep building up till it burns.

Almost all of Manitobas are human caused. From trains, cigarettes to arson. But some people don't respect the back country travel bans either and unknowingly start the fire with their quads or vehicles. They even shut down the hiking trails in the provincial parks. The one near Flin Flon that started in Saskatchewan was guys shooting fireworks into the ditch.

I saw today they had to stop using some of the bombers due to so many people flying drones to take pictures. Visibility was and is about a mile here all day.
