Was watching the Ken Burn's civil war documentary and they had a clip from the 1920's of a bunch of old vets from both sides shaking hands from opposite sides of a short stone wall. When one of the old southern gents let go with an awful squalling like a pig caught in a trap. The confederate vet closest to the camera turned to the camera with a huge grin and excitedly blurts out "THATS THE REBEL YELL!"

Anybody hear it before?

So Warrior, did you hear it from an actual participant of the civil war?

Different regiments had different yells at the beginning. By the end of the war, the had all kind of blended together into one. That's what my Grampa told me. He was told by kin who had fought in the civil war.

No, but it's still around. Every young man of my acquaintance in childhood had fought and refought every major engagement and campaign, each also had a version of the rebel yell. We aint forgot.

I remember seeing that old Vet give the yell then making his comment a few years back.

My dad used to tell about still seeing a few civil war vets during the July 4th and memorial day parades. Each year less until there were no more. That would have been in the early to mid 1920's. I think Oregon had a pretty even split between Rebs and Union.

Turtle man does a good one.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.
